You find something new each time
Do you love cats? Do you love art, plays, or movies? Do love annoying your husband with obnoxious cat items? Do you want something that will start conversations about cats, so that you can then excessively talk about your marvelous cat. Then, this book is for you. :)I really enjoy this book. I like art, but not enough to know the details about it. I learn a little about art but all the pictures have cats so it's silly and interesting enough for me to keep looking.

Must have for cat lovers!
Susan Helbert’s books are by far the best things I’ve ever found related to cats. I originally bought Shakespeare Cats and loved it so much I went online and bought every single book she’s ever published. I was a little bit upset when I realized this particular volume has collections from four others, which I’ve also purchased. I didn’t read the description, which says illustrations are taken from Shakespeare Cats, pre-raphaelite cats, opera cats, and movie cats. But honestly the book is so beautiful, especially without the dust jacket, that I don’t mind that the illustrations in this book are from the others I also purchased. I would however like verification on whether there are any illustrations in this volume that are new, not found in the other books?

wonderful collection of art works and stage scenes with cats substituted for people
Cats Galore is a compendium of a number of Susan Herbert’s marvelous books: The Cats History of Western Art, Impressionist Cats, Pre-Raphaelite Cats, Shakespeare’s Cats, The Catropolitan Opera, Movie Cats, and maybe some I’ve missed. I don’t think it has all the pictures in each book, but it has a lot of them. If you (or the person you are buying the book for) don’t already know Herbert’s work, this is the place to start. Why is this a wonderful book? Let me count a few of the ways. First, Herbert’s watercolors are detailed and beautiful paintings in themselves. Second, she does a perfect job of imitating each of the varied artistic works and styles she so lovingly parodies. Third, she finds exactly the right color of cat to represent each of the characters portrayed, and exactly the right expression for its situation. The results are gorgeous and, often, funny at the same time.If you (or the person you’re buying for) like(s) art, plays, movies, and CATS, get this book Yesterday!!

A treat for those who love cats and art!
I've been a fan of Herbert for some time. Her creative use of cats in famous paintings is both educational and entertaining. This is a real treat for shose who love art and cats. I also highly recommend Fat Cat Art by Svetlana Petrova who photoshops her cat into paintings instead of Herbert's technique of substituting cats for people. My only complaint is with shipping on this item: it came in a box with other books and without adequate padding. As a result the dust jacket was torn on arrival. I'm not going to knock down the rating on a great book for shipping problems but I did want to mention it. (That's a pet peeve of mine: people who love a book but who give it a bad rating for another problem unconnected with content. Some don't read all the reivews to see that the reason book X only got three stars is because the Kindle version was formatted oddly or whatever.)

What a great and imaginative book.
I saw this book in the bookstore at the Mauritshuis Museum in the Hague which houses the Girl with the Pearl Earring painting. The cat with the pearl earring on the cover immediately caught my eye, and I had to laugh. I didn't want to carry the book back with me and suspected I could get it on Amazon, which I did upon my return. I'm giving it to my future daughter-in-law for Christmas who is a cat and art lover....

The Purr-fect gift for the cat- or art-lover in your life
This is a surprisingly-thick coffee-table book, full of approximately three-hundred lavish illustrations that place cats in classical artworks, Shakespearean plays, well-known operas and well-loved movies. Painted by the late artist, Susan Herbert (well-known for her paintings of cultural, classical cats), all the illustrations are so perfect, full of characterful felines who seem like they were born to play Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring or Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in From Here to Eternity. This book is fantastic for all cat-lovers, but would be doubly appreciated by someone with a little knowledge of classical art and cinema. It's a glossy, lavish book that will provide hours of enjoyment for the cat- or art-lover in your life.Buy it as a gift, or as a treat for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Great fun for cat lovers everywhere
You probably need to be a cat lover to appreciate this (I am). If you are then you will find plenty to amuse you in the work of Susan Herbert. She takes famous works of art and 're-imagines' them with cats substituted for the people. Even if you are not an 'art buff' you will recognise many, if not all, of the images here. The painting is very well executed.I believe that the artist may now be deceased, so there won't be any more. Get this while you can.

Very clever book!
For art lovers everywhere! This book is amazing and leaves you wondering why the original artists did not use cats as models. I particularly liked the section on the cinema with 'Brief Encounter' my favourite

Enough To Make A Cat Laugh
Amazing collection of Cats Meet the Arts. Very funny & well-portrayed. Sue Herbert’s catty interpretations of the famous atrists’ Masterpieces are excellent. Very witty & uplifting. Ideal present for all cat lovers.
