Sehr gute fesselnde Buchreihe

Redhead hunt
Book two in the fantasy trilogy 'The Firemane saga.' Book one was 'King of Ashes.' There is some exposition in this as you go along, so it might work as a jumping on point. But I think you would be better off starting with book one. This book runs for four hundred and seventh one pages. There's a prologue. A map at the start of the setting. Twenty one chapters. Then an epilogue. It does, being middle book in a trilogy, end with a lot up in the air. There is some violence and some adult moments.Hatu and new wife Hava are now living a quiet life running an inn in a little town. Life is quiet and good. Although Hatu does wonder if she loves him as much as he loves her.But fate and the machinations of others haven't finished with them yet. When war strikes, they have different quests ahead of them. Both to try and make their own destiny themselves...As mentioned in my review of book one, I hadn't read anything by this writer in a long time. But that book I enjoyed. It wasn't great literature. It was though good solid professional writing and storytelling. Here you do get more of the same, but it does take a while to get going. The prologue does have a fair bit of info to impart, so that has to be borne with. It feels like something written in the seventies. Early chapters do deal with quiet village life and are not eventful, although the way it does initially keep Hava's feelings hidden re that earlier question works really well. But about 150 pages in, it really gets going. And then it gets to become a real page turner. There's a great feeling of being caught up in war, with no idea what is going on elsewhere and why some things are happening. Which is what such things are like, so this works superbly. Then both the leads have things to do and good motivation, and it really makes you want to know if they will overcome what is happening and live happily ever after.Characters are solidly rounded and believable, and it is really really readable. There are other viewpoint characters too, and their narratives slot in well with the main picture.Slightly churlish to say that the epilogue is a little bit abrupt, in light of all that came before. But it did give me that feeling. But that is only a minor complaint. That and the gentle start do stop this from being a five star read, but the bulk of the volume is, so I really did like it a lot. A very good read by a writer who is clearly good at creating such. I look forward to the finale.

Awesome story
Found Feist’s first book of Firemage series in local library. I read Raymond Feist decades ago, so when I saw King of Ashes, it only took a weekend to read and I wanted more! Enjoyed it so much, I bought the two remaining in this series. I’ve just finished Book II, Queen of Storms. Tonight, I will begin the last book.
