Not for everyone
The optics are very good. Do not get these unless you have significant visual challenges. If you are unable to read small script ( like movie info on Netflix. Apple etc, box scores on baseball games) these clip ons will let you see the small print, but is a very different visual experience. No peripheral vision, with a big screen TV you will have to move your head to see different parts of the picture, but faces will be clearer and the small print will be legible.

wonderful for elderly relative
These really help a relative to see TV even with severe macular degeneration. Thus they are wonderful and definitely worth buying more than one pair. I wish the lenses scratched less easily, the little plastic feet were more secure, and the spring did not occasionally come apart. Each if these issues can be fixed at home (likely not by the person with vision problems). Adjusting the height of these clip-ons and fixing the spring require a small Philips screw driver which we had. We glued the plastic feet on. These keep the clips from sliding and not scratching the lenses of the regular glasses. We got the first two pair from the optometrist. One had a problem and the manufacturer made improvements and sent a second. This one bought on Amazon is the third. It has the improved clip design! We bought them in case something happened to the ones being used. Once someone uses them, life without them is awful. The metal pieces seem to be rugged and do not seem to rust from glass cleaning with water and mild soap. This product is made in Germany and are the only things we found that provide good TV viewing. Other products might provide easier adjustments, but their lenses and design just don't work well. These clips are easy for visually impaired person (unless very old) to clip on to distance/bifocal/progressive glasses, especially once the hieght is adjusted for that pair of glasses. Don't let your friend or relative live without these - they are great!

Very helpful product for a low vision person
What’s good: I bought this product to use in watching TV. It definitely helps greatly not only in reading closed caption text and text in commercials but also helps in seeing detail in the picture and providing greater detail in facial expressions. The product is fairly easy to use, even fitting my exceptionally thick lenses. So far, the flip-up feature has worked well. This feature m gets the maxTV Clip out of the way so you can get up and move around the house without totally removing them. What’s not so great: Adjusting the vertical position of the lenses is no easy task; but it was very necessary for me. I had to move them from the highest position to the lowest. I found that using a “third hand” (weighted base with padded alligator clips) helped a lot. I believe the design of the the vertical positioning could be improved. The fixed focus at about 3 meters (9.5 - 10 ft) is a definite trade off. It could be a bit problematic in many homes to get to the right viewing distance. There is a little bit of leeway in that distance but not much. If you are 12 or 18 inches too close or too far away, the picture is no longer in sharp focus. It would be really great to have at least minimal adjustable focus from, say, 8 ft to 12 ft. But I’m not at all sure that is feasible in a product that is also trying to be inexpensive. (You can get it in a device that can cost up to several thousand dollars. M) The weight of this product may be too much for someone who has light glasses. With my thick lenses and big frames it was noticeable but not too onerous. I am concerned that the plastic which supports the maxTV when mounted on your glasses and which provides the flip-up feature is not durable enough to last for too long. At $125 price point I hope the plastic will hold up for at least a couple of years. But I am not overly confident that it will last that long. I have never been known for my gentle touch, perhaps due to my low vision and it’s attendant problem with depth perception. Summary: It’s a good product that fills a definite need. I’m enjoying my maxTV Clip and hope it works for you as well. But I also hope they continue to improve the product, even if they have to increase the price some to accommodate new features.

Awful! Beware!
Beware!! My mom could not use these. They were not as described and she could not see through them. I returned and to further insult me they refused to refund the full amount.

An expensive and disappointing option for reading text on a TV screen
Let me state up front that these glasses are no substitute for buying a larger TV. If you can afford to buy a larger TV, then buy a larger TV. These glasses aren't cheap, so save your money and spend it on what you really need in the first place. Alternatively, just sit closer to the TV if you can - these glasses should be a last resort. That said, the glasses do work well at what they're designed to do. They magnify a portion of the TV screen, making it possible to see details clearly that might otherwise be difficult to see. My TV is plenty big at 60" and a distance of 12 feet, but I have it hooked up to a Mac Mini that functions as a media server. These glasses allow me to read text in dialogue boxes and menus from a distance without having to use the computer's zoom feature to constantly zoom in and out. I find this particularly helpful when adding new music to my music library or adding photos to my photo library, which I do fairly often. I chose these clip-on glasses as opposed to the dedicated version because I wanted to be able to see around them or to flip them out of the way. They do work well in that regard, but they're heavy and tend to pull my glasses right off the end of my nose. The clip-on bracket is not much stronger than what you'd find in a pair of clip-on sun glasses, such that the magnifiers often fall back down, making the flip-up feature pretty useless. The biggest drawback, however, is that there is a limited amount of adjustability, which can be a problem with progressive lenses. These magnifiers are designed to sit right on your lenses and to focus at a distance of 3 meters, which is about ten feet. The vertical position can be adjusted up or down slightly, but if your eyes are set closer or farther apart than the magnifiers, your focus will be off, particularly if you use eyeglasses with progressive lenses. If your TV is farther than 10 feet away, the focus will again be off. In my particular case, I could compensate by holding the magnifiers out a few millimeters, but they won't stay in this position. I ended up using a small nail to keep the magnifier from falling back down, but that is pretty pathetic for a product that costs close to $200. Even more surprising is that there is a noticeable amount of chromatic aberration - colored fringes are visible above and below objects on the TV. Even a cheap pair of reading glasses does better at this. So in summary, these magnifying glasses are a big disappointment. They do work acceptably for what I need, which is to be able to read small text on a TV screen from a distance. They are much more convenient for glasses wearers than a dedicated pair would be, but they may not work well for all people, particularly those who wear progressive lenses. The quality of the optics is disappointing to say the least, and the clip-on bracket is not sufficiently strong to allow the magnifier to stay in the flip-up position, nor to adjust the focal length. The magnifier is somewhat heavy and tends to pull your glasses off your face. If your intent is to use these to avoid buying a larger TV - don't - save your money and buy a bigger TV.

These have been perfect for my low-vision dad!
We balked a bit at the price on this item but it has been worth it. The glasses are high-quality, very light, and come in a nicely cushioned case. My dad mainly uses them for when he is watching sports on the TV in his bedroom, which does not have the space for a large TV. That was the reason for buying them. However, he has also been liking to pop them on to get a better look at birds or other interesting sights while on walks. And just this weekend he requested them while at church. He could easily read the bible verses and song lyrics on the video monitors. We always sit right in front by a large monitor and I didn't realize he had had a problem until with the glasses he was piping up during all the hymns, lol! Wish we'd gotten these sooner.

This should be rated as a 5+ but...
They work beautifully! I was stunned at how clear and close everything looked. The biggest disappointment was that the clip is too weak to support multiple usage and it broke off after approximately 30 times of clipping on and off. The product is excellent, it’s literally gives you clarity & closeness of sight! They just need to fix the manufacturing defect of the weak clip.
