Plug in and good to go
Worked with my mac right out of the box. Came with a usb-c adapter which was perfect for my ports. Used with make mkv and was able to easily rip a blu ray. Just a straight forward drive good for the price.

Works well in MakeMKV after firmware downgrade
I received my five drives today (8/01/2025) and MakeMKV detects the drive as a BU40 (LG) firmware version 1.05. After downgrading the version 1.03 MakeMKV is able to decode UHD discs. So out of the box this drive might not work on UHD discs, but spending one minute downgrading the firmware solved the problem.As for the reviewers complaining about a lack of software.... this is a UHD drive where desktop playback software usually won't work due to a lack of SGX support when playing UHD content. So it would be a waste of time and $ to bundle playback software.

It's a bit light and difficult to use since it's so thin, but it gets the job done.

Good solution for archiving data for long term storage
Works well with my Macbook Air running Sonoma OS. I've successfully burned 75+ GB worth of archive data onVerbatim M DISC BDXL 100GB media. I used the slowest writing speeds to reduce the chance of writing errors.The drive itself is very slim, and I find the build quality to be acceptable. It doesn't seem cheap. It has a USB-C connector in the back, and a USB-C to USB-A cable in the box. Also included is a USB-A to USB-C adapter, which I used to complete the connection to my Mac. For archiving the data files, I used the OSX native burn feature in Finder - no 3rd party software was required.The drive is not quiet, but that's not what I need or expected. I just want it to work and it does.

Wouldn't play anything...
At setup it connected, installed software, was visible in Window File Explorer, but could not get it to play anything...Windows Media Player wouldn't autoplay dvd or blu-ray. So I installed Nero Media Home, which it suggested via the setup software...that software said it doesn't support dvd playback (and didn't even recognize a blu-ray disc). It then said I needed an upgraded version of Nero Media Home and directed me to their website where they wanted me to pay a ridiculous amount of money for software to play dvds. The drive is running fine and I can see and read files. This was not a purchased dvd copy protection issue either - I could not play dvds that I created and did not have copy protection. So this product was a complete fail. Not sure the point of dvd player that won't play dvds.

You Get What You Pay For - Cheap and Short-Lived

Perfect Addition to Office Setup for World & Pleasure, Good Value & Quality.
Terrific for use in my office as an addition to 2nd computer so watch DVDs for my work and just to have something on, nice and compact and works well. Good value and the comes with various NERO software packages. Good value and solid quality.
