They Disappeared: Jackman & Evans, Book 7

A brilliant addition to a brilliant series
They Disappeared’ is the seventh book in the bestselling series featuring Detective inspector Rowan Jackman and Detective Sergeant Marie Evans. I have read and loved each book in the series so far. I had high hopes for ‘They Disappeared’ and I wasn’t disappointed. ‘They Disappeared’ is another amazing addition to the series and I thoroughly enjoyed every single word of it, but more about that in a bit.As soon as I started to read ‘They Disappeared’, I knew that I wasn’t going to doing anything else for the rest of the day other than read the book. To say that reading ‘They Disappeared’ became addictive is a massive understatement. I picked the book up only intending to dip a toe in the water and make a start on reading the book but I became that wrapped up in the story that I read more like half a dozen chapters. For me, ‘They Disappeared’ really was an unputdownable pageturner of a read. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. I seemed to speed through the story at the pace of Usain Bolt. At one point the pages seemed to turn that quickly that the page numbers all blurred into one. I soon got to the end of the story and I had to bid farewell to Jackman and Evans.‘They Disappeared’ is superbly written but then I think that to be true of Joy’s books in general. She certainly knows how to grab your attention from the start and draw you into the story. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fast pace throughout. In fact reading this book felt more like watching a Hollywood film with all the drama, intrigue, suspense and espionage. There were more twists and turns to this story than you would find on a ‘Snakes & Ladders’ board. Reading this book felt like being on one hell of a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with no idea in which direction the story is going to take you next. For me, ‘They Disappeared’ is a tightly plotted, superbly written page turner of a book that gripped me from start to finish and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘They Disappeared’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Joy’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board has to be 5* out of 5*.‘

Not very good.
I read The Silent Man which features Jackman and Evans, and I really enjoyed that, so I looked forward to reading this.I had tried to avoid Joy Ellis because of her use of stilted dialogue, and the book just mentioned managed to avoid that to some extent. In They Disappeared there are a couple of plots running simultaneously and which I would have enjoyed if it hadn't been for the endless cries of 'oh my' on every other page.Once again the dialogue was awful, everyone was over chummy and everything was too perfect. I thought their detective skills were dreadful, as I'd managed to work out who the killer was at an early stage.Definitely no more Joy Ellis for me.

Fabulous as always
I have to say, it was a joy (excuse the pun)! to receive this ARC from Joffe publishers. I do so enjoy this authors books, they are enthralling and well written, atmospheric and as I’ve said many times before, I like the way Joy intermingles they characters from this series and the characters from the Nicki Gelana books.I think the area where the books are written adds to the atmosphere and whilst I, myself haven’t been to this part of the country, you can feel the mists enveloping and the change of weather, all make it a bit spooky. The book starts off with Orac who’s missing, I was quite upset as I thought something had happened to her, especially with her background as a “spook”. Coupled with two people who are urban explorers going missing the team have their work cut out.I didn’t really know what urban explorers did, and, after finding out, I for one, wouldn’t be seen dead in an old abandoned building!! When three bodies are found hanging upside down, it was strange because I immediately thought of “the hanged man” a tarot card and could picture it quite clearly. As the story unfolds, you get a better insight into Orac’s life, and her past. This, and Marie’s seem to be improving. Rowan doesn’t seem to do much horse riding atm, but all the main characters were there and of course Cat from Nikki Galena’s team.I must just say, with all the books I read, I didn’t see the end coming. My thanks to Joy and Joffe Publishers for the ARC.

They Disappeared
Another great book from Joy Ellis. It follows the investigation into the abductions and murders of several young urban explorers. These are enthusiasts who like to explore abandoned and decaying old buildings and to take photographs, mainly at night. The story line is excellent and novel. The sub plots intriguing. Because of the the fast pace of the narrative, the sstory lacks a little depth and the characters just seem a bit too perfect but otherwise an outstanding book.

Great Read
I really enjoyed this book. Love the dynamics between the characters. Basically a story of 2 parts in one Urban investigators mysteriously disappear. In the other Orac the police whizz technician disappeared. Jackman and Evans are left with little to go on to solve these mysteries. Great read.

Captivating
Gripping from the very start. Urbexers are disappearing leaving other explorers in fear. Have they been taken or have they just up and left? Are they dead or alive? Jackson and Marie set out to solve this but one of their team is missing too. What should their priorities be? This is a brilliant book. Another Joy Ellis masterpiece that I couldn’t put down.

A fabulous and enthralling read.
This is the 7th book in this series featuring Jackman and Evans. I thought this was a fabulous read and it certainly kept me enthralled. At the beginning Orla Cracken, known as Orac, their IT expert hadn’t turned up for work. This was totally out of character. We find out a lot about her background and we follow her storyline. Meanwhile, Robbie, a team member meets up with his former colleague, Stella, now a farmers wife. Her obsession is urban exploration and she tells him of the disappearance of an urban explorer. The two storylines run concurrently. I thought the plotline of this book was very cleverly written, making it a great read. It has a superlative and surprising ending.
