I'm guessin' about 800-1000 lumens for about $20-25 bucks... IMHO, ya CAN go wrong. Look elsewhere... DEAD in less than a year
I wanted a single mode light to immediately light up a small area (room size) like the Sun, and Boy... did I get it! First with the 'positives': It's BRIGHT!I don't know about 1200 lumens... but easily, 700-800 (1K?) based on comparison to a known 300 lumen light. A very well made aluminum body with an aggressive base and (sorta) crown (for defense) with a seemingly well made tail-cap switch. For what it does (light up a room sized area) it does it VERY well! It runs on a single #18650 Li-on battery (or 2 CR123's, I tried both) with minimal rattling. Now for the "not so great" category: The "zoom" feature leaves much to be desired. The housing is WAY too easy to slide... it almost does it freely without attempting to focus it. This is 'okay' for me because I rarely see myself using this light outside of "close up", but it slides so easy it does concern me a bit. That, and I will NEVER get used to a "square" beam on the "spot light" function. I know the LED is square shaped, but for me it just seems 'unnatural' (but boy is it bright!). It has a small hole in the "base crown" for the standard (kinda cheesy) wrist strap (which I removed) and will 'tail-stand' very well.It is easy to disassemble with well-machined threads (from a semi-"lay persons" perspective) and fairly easy to put back together. "Water PROOF", I doubt seriously... Water-resistant.... YES! If it wasn't for the very loose "zoom housing" (and the square spot light beam), this would be a perfect, single mode flashlight.NOTE: I've already wrapped the inside housing with teflon tape, which has tightened the slide a bit... but this is a work in progress. I'll update later if I figure out how to "tighten up" the slide housing. All in all.... it's a great light for about $25.... If this seems right for your specific use, Get one!UPDATE: DEAD..... about a year or so later with very minimal usage. Went from a room light, to a key-hole light (several hundred to about 15-20 lumens). Look elsewhere.....

Brilliant Adjustable Beam Size, Wonderfully Single Mode Only, Well Made
This is the flashlight you have been searching for. First, foremost, and most importantly its function can be represented with a single binary bit - it has exactly two possible states, on or off. No annoying flashing lights, no idiotic SOS. it is either on, or it is off. Praise to the designers for figuring that out. This flashlight has optical focus, the convex lens slides forward or backwards to expand or contract the beam of light. I focus it down to the width of the sidewalk on my daily 5AM walk. In 45 minutes it consumes about 1150mah. It is very, very bright. Extremely bright.Last week one morning I was crossing the street in front of a tall bus when a man attempting to run a stop sign while passing in an intersection on the wrong side of the road nearly killed me. I think he saw the reflected light from this flashlight on the ground, and panic stopped just before he hit me. This flashlight was then aimed directly at the perps eyes as I finished crossing in front off him. Suddenly he was blinded by the light :)

I am a flash light freak and I can say ...
I am a flash light freak and I can say that for its size it is the brightest flashlight I have. I have not measured the throw on the tight beam, but it is very defined on the side of the building my yard and that is close to 400 yards. no complaints here. UPDATE 5/1/2016 I turned this flashlight on the second time after my first use and it would not work. I tried a new battery and still dead. I took a known functioning battery out of another flashlight still dead. This is a shame because this was an exceedingly bright flashlight.

Best Flashlight!!
Absolutely the best flashlight I've ever owned. Previous was an XM-L. This XM-L2 is very noticeably brighter. It is a full cover beam, with no rings or center spot. The single on/off switch makes this the perfect flashlight. At work, under machinery in close quarters, I need only point it in the general direction to provide an abundance of light where I'm working. When I have to look deep inside a system, with zoom, 30-40 feet is clear as day, my eyes fail after that in the small spaces. Also, I have dropped it several times, makes an awful sound, but never failed. Depending on workload, batteries last from 3-5 days. Bought one for my sister and she loves it, too.

Buy it!
I bought the flashlight & kit which comes with two precharged lithium batteries (flashlight only needs 1 at a time); battery charger; lanyard & belt holster. Compared to one of those LED flashlight that use 3 AAA batteries and have 9 or 10 LEDs - all I can say is WOW! 1 battery & 1 LED & it is BLINDING BRIGHT!

& the shell felt sturdy & of good quality
2 stars reflect that it shipped in time, & the shell felt sturdy & of good quality. The actual lighting quality & strength was not as described & was the main reason it was ordered. May use it around the house but definitely not for an emergency responder for which it was ordered.
