A Squiggly Story

A very good book for a Writing lesson
I enjoyed reading this book to my kindergarteners. Following the reading, I sent the kids straight to the table to write. Their writing was much more thought out. It is such a sweet story, too.

This is an amazing book to read to beginning writers
This is an amazing book to read to beginning writers. I teach Transitional Kindergarten and writing is our instructional focus this year, so this book was a treasure to find. After reading this book to my students, they had a better understanding that anyone can be a writer and that writing begins with what you know, even if that is just a single letter. The only downside, is I am not all that fond of the layout of this book, it's kind of comic bookish, and the illustrations are not the greatest, but the theme and story are spot on! I've shared it with my district cohorts and recommended it to several other teachers of young learners.

Teachers, check this out!
I am a librarian and came across this book while searching for new read aloud's. I thought it was so good that I went back and ordered some more for the teachers in the classroom. It will be a good intro to the writing lesson.

Cute & teaches too...
Really cute. Gave for birthday to 5 yr. old boy. He can't write yet but that's why I got this for him! I think it shows that a child doesn't need to be able to write yet...he/she can draw things in place of words! Very cute & teaches too.

This adorable book she's a little boy in meyering his sisters ability to write and illustrate a story. When he told her he couldn't create his own story she told him of course you can and become his his mentor. He quickly learns that he too can create a story of his own with his unique abilities and creative talents. He also becomes a mentor to another child. This book truly is a great example of Lev vygotsky's Theory about children scaffolding ideas and abilities by observing those in their General environment that appear to be more capable than themselves. Educators, parents, and older siblings, May realize the importance of their responses to questions being asked by young children filled with curiosity.

Perfect for introducing journaling or writing
I am a PreK teacher. We use this book to introduce fake or squiggle writing to the kids. Then we start journaling just like the boy in the book. It is a good story with good pictures. The kids love it!

Perfect for Teachers!
I teach Grade 1 and this book has already inspired my class to start being authors themselves. Adorable, engaging story - perfect for little ones learning to make the connection between reading and writing. I recommend this to all teachers of young students!
