THIS IS NOT AN ASSIST OPEN. I bought it on Prime day thinking I could use a small assist open at work (in WA state I am allowed to carry an assist open knife while on duty.) it is not. So I'm rather annoyed at that, I'm left with a fairly cheap knife that doesn't do anything my opinel number 8 can't do. It's a squeeze release which I do not love, the size is just a hair too small in the grip to be comfortable (it really is a knife for someone with smaller hands, though even a small knife can be comfortable if more thought is given to ergos) The thumb catch really doesn't operate smoothly like a benchmade. The handle feels sketchy. the molding and fit is tight, but the material feels like unreinforced ABS, which may crack. So no heavy duty work. The things I like? Honestly quite a lot, and that pushes it from two stars into four. Well, the fit and finish apart from the actual material of the handle is pretty great. nothing is loose, gritty, or scuffed/scratched, so some care was taken to make sure assembly was done right. The actual finish and color of the handles is good too (I bought orange for EMS) I like the shape of the blade, it'll do a stellar job of small tasks like opening boxes or cutting a piece of fruit. It's actually balanced perfectly at the finger chorl. And the blade is pretty exceptional. The steel of the blade is stone washed, so the finish is lovely and durable (stonewashing really hides abuse well since it's already scratched!) and it was pretty exceptionally sharp out of the box. Not as razor sharp as I will make it, but as a sharpening snob, it absolutely will do a great job right as it comes from the factory. the bevels are near-spot on, I'd wager about a 40 degree inclusive edge, and it will pop quite a few hairs on your arm (though not quite shaving sharp) I went at some cardboard boxes for a while with it, just hacking them to bits, and was pleasantly surprised. This is a decent steel. Overall, if I can get past the fact that it's not an actual assist opener, it's a good glovebox or small utility knife. The only thing that lets it down is that the handle really needs to be more heavily fiberglass reinforced (if it's reinforced at all) because any heavy use will likely snap it. Would I recommend it as an everyday pocket knife to someone? no. For less money, you can have either a stainless or carbon steel opinel number 8, a ridiculously high quality blade with a dead reliable collar lock and a great solid chunk of wood for a handle. If you want something closer in size to the buck, go for a number 6 or 7, but the number 8 is great for all hand sizes. This knife is fine for light duty, but I can baton with an opinel, and they've been making that knife for nearly 150 years, not to mention it gets comments every time you use it (much more gentlemanly than some camo colored folder)
