Andrew Carnegie

Well written and well researched
David Nasaw’s biography does a great job of bringing the steel Baron Andrew Carnegie to life. It is well written, well researched and easy to follow. Some of the one star reviews on here have complained that it’s too long but Andrew Carnegie’s business career relatively ends at the end of the 19th century. The last 200 pages of the book is dedicated to Carnegie’s philanthropy and attempts at achieving international piece. Although you will learn about Carnegie’s rise in business and the methods used to accumulate his wealth this is not a business biography. You will not get a biography on the internal transactions of the Carnegie Company in great and exhaustive detail and for that I’m grateful. His business dealings are well documented but Carnegie the person, not the businessman, is the focus of this biography.

Buchumschlag

Carnegie was highly intelligent, highly energetic
Carnegie was highly intelligent, highly energetic, but an endless meddler in affairs outside his own business. A sycophant to those in power he sought out fame and recognition by association. Hated unions and was hugely flawed in the way he treated his workers, especially in the Homestead fiasco that he denied, to his dying days that he was a part of. In fact he knew and orchestrated every detail.A great book by Nasaw, who had access to the family archives and did a tremendous job of revealing Carnegie life and goals, including his mishandled ventures toward World Peace.
