An absolutely heart-wrenching story.
I’m not going to review this novel in the “proper” way. Instead, I want to tell you what it meant to me. You see, I only read the first couple sentences of a blurb, if at all. I judge by popularity, the cover, genre, the author, all of the things readers aren’t supposed to judge a book by before reading it. Usually if it is popular, it is popular for a reason. This makes me think of the quote, “if you read what everyone else is reading, you’ll think what everyone else is thinking.”Alas, I have found a book that makes me disagree with this quote. If a book makes you think, it doesn’t matter what others people’s thoughts on it were. The only thing that matters are the thoughts you take away. And, did I take away some thoughts.I was conflicted, sad, angry, happy. Literally all over the spectrum. But what I felt is irrelevant because feelings are fleeting. What I thought, becomes the thing that sticks to me for years as I reflect on this book. How can a person love two people? Who deserves your loyalty? Who is the right person to hurt for your own selfish desires? Do our decisions matter or will things eventually work out in their own way?The answer is simple- love matters. Love isn’t just a feeling, it’s a thought. It stays, long after the recipient is gone. It changes us forever. That’s why we can trust love- true love. One True Loves is a beautifully written novel that will certainly be on my list to revisit again someday. I blew through this book in one afternoon and fell in love along the way. I like that it made me question things, because there is never a black and white choice for all of the crossroads we come to in life. This is why we can never truly judge people for the choices they make without understanding the reasons behind their decisions. In this story, I found myself rooting for the outcome directly opposite to what I value and would consider “moral” for myself in real-life.“Falling out of love with someone you still like feels exactly like lying in a warm bed and hearing the alarm clock. No matter how good you feel right now, you know it’s time to go.”Taylor Jenkins Reid is a persuasive writer and gifted storyteller. I cannot wait to read more of her work in the future! If you’re looking for a book with all the feels, this is definitely it! 5 stars and then some!

Beautiful story
I loved this so much and could not stop thinking about it all day! Also I just saw it’s in development to become a movie and that has me very excited. I went into this book knowing nothing and was immediately wrapped up in the story.Emma has lived a fabulous, fast-paced life with her highschool sweetheart for a decade. They moved away from their hometown and lived on the go, traveling everywhere and always seeking new adventures. On their wedding anniversary the helicopter he was in crashes and all are presumed dead. Emma is devastated and moves back to her hometown, where after time she learns to live and love again. 2 years later, she is running her parents bookshop and gets back in contact with an old friend from highschool and they fall in love and get engaged. Now 3 and a half years after her husband disappeared, he shows back up alive and Emma finds herself with a husband and a fiancée….This was angst central and I ate it up. This was a love triangle done right, there wasn’t an obvious choice of who she would end up with and I was obsessed over who she was going to pick (because of course I had a favorite 😅). This was just a really beautiful story and I won’t soon forget it!

True love in life
4.5 stars. I thought I knew how I wanted this to go before starting. And I held on to that for a little while and then surprised myself by changing my mind. Maybe I thought Emma was overly generous in doling out her love in the midst of her dilemma, but at the same time, she did it with her whole heart and with conflict warring within. It was an unusual and confusing situation. The story captured the feels and circumstances well of each of the characters, particularly Emma’s perspective and her growth process. I could appreciate the underlying message with respect to the past and the present and the thought provoking elements.

Who will she choose
Found this book to be a great read. It's about Emma and her stories with the two loves of her life Jesse and Sam.Emma met Sam when he worked for her families bookstore when they were teenagers. They immediately clicked, but nothing happened so they stayed friends and eventually lost contact with each other. Almost at the same time Emma met Sam she met Jesse a swimmer at their school. Sparks flew and they quickly became a couple. They went to college together, they saw the world together and eventually married in their 20s.Not even a year after she and Jesse got married he died in a plane crash. She's devastated and goes back to the Massachusetts town she was from to heal. She reconnects with Sam and they become a couple. Right after they get engaged though she gets a call. Jesse is still alive. She has to decide which one she wants. An interesting read.

Quality romance very different to anything else 👍
TJR is a new author to me ; after discovering the fantastic daisy jones and the six Iv ordered all her other novels. One true loves is an extremely good romance book 📖 id say much much higher quality than chick lit - my goodness I hate that term it’s so sexist let’s band it !!! Anyway , it does start a little like a YA novel , which is an issue for me as I do not get on with YA novels ; however that is just setting the scene as Emma ages with pretty much each chapter . It’s probably everyone’s (except in some instances ) worst nightmare that a lover , partner , husband , wife etc re appears after years. Particularly at certain stages in your life , for those of us who have reached it and beyond we know you’re not the same person at 25 that you are at 45 etc and traits you find endearing in a lover in your 20s make you want to shout for divorce papers in your 50s. In my book group each one of us is on our 2nd marriage apart from the youngest member , we probably seem like a negative 👎 lot ! There is so much that reminds me of my first marriage about this book, we met very young , we changed and moved in different directions 🧭 we had an amicable divorce , we are both remarried and live on opposite sides of the world , our marriage would never ever have lasted , but I have very fond memories of our life together , it’s part of our history - and to quote the book “we were right for each other once , I am who I am because I loved you and you loved me “, if only people could have happy break ups because at some stage in your life that person made you happy. Anyway, checking out your ex’s is an hilarious thing to do with your girlfriends , I think that’s why social media was invented 😆 I know I did it recently On a spa day , it made us happy it made us laugh it made us reminisce , it’s also nice to see these people that at one stage in your life made you happy are happy and healthy now in their life’s, surely we’d wish that for all of them , no body deserves to be lonely. So in my humble opinion a clever little story about past and present loves which I very much enjoyed , I haven’t ever read anything quite like it , and If you haven’t laid in bed at night next to current husband / wife / lover no 2, 3, 4 or 5 and thought about no 1 or no 2 then your nose 👃🏻 will grow like Pinocchio 🤥 😆 happy reading folks x x x

Please read this book!!!
Wow! Breathtaking! I will remember this book for a long time.I was straight into the story, it felt as if my best friend and me had sat down for a cuppa and a heart to heart.I was gripped and couldn’t put the book down. I raced through it, it has so many poignant moments and parts where I re-read the paragraph just to make the words sink in so that I wouldn’t forget them.I not only highly recommend this book, I implore you to add it to you wish list and make sure you read it at least once in your life. A very strong 5⭐️ rating from me.

Such a heart wrenching but wonderful read
I think Taylor Jenkins Reid is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.I loved the concept of the book: three years after his disappearance and suspected death, a woman finds out her husband is alive, and is coming home.I definitely felt Emma's heartbreak in this book, along with her grief and then shock and finally acceptance that her husband had returned, but that her life had altered in ways which made their reunion bittersweet. I had no idea how this would pan out but enjoyed the journey through Emma's thoughts and her decision about what she really wanted from life. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Too cliché
The book is well written, however I felt the outcome was too cliché. Far too long had passed before Jesse came back. The book would have been far more interesting if they still connected after all this time, instead of going through the expected road of “they are now different people “. It just felt like a lot of pages to get to that answer.

Intoxicating, both out of this world and yet so relatable
Taylor Jenkins Reid has WOWED me twice with Daisy Jones and Malibu Rising so I had high hopes for this book and every single hope was met. The story is beautiful and well-crafted to the point that upon finishing, I feel like I have the entire world and its characters living in my head. It resonated with me in so many ways despite involving the mind-blowing event of Jesse returning after his 'death'. Just incredible.
