Does this override the main room thermostat? We have a cold room we'd like to continue heating after rest of the house has turned the thermostat down?

This replaces the radiator manual thermostat and controls when the rad gets hot and how hot. Obviously the boiler has to be running over the period the device is on. So to warm a cold room you'd still need to keep the boiler running which would warm the rest of the house. What you need is one of these devices on every other rad to turn them off while the boiler is still running to warm the cold room. Running a boiler to heat one room and paying for a bunch of these for all the other rads might be expensive. You might be better off getting an electric heater and putting it on a timer.
