Great value, minimizes background noise while providing good clear sound from your subject..
Great mic, especially for the price. I've used this in noisy environments, both indoors and outdoors. It minimizes a lot of the background noise and is still sensitive enough in the front to give crisp clear audio. I've run this directly to my camera with an XLR cable, as well as used it with a Saramonic wireless transmitter on a handheld boom outdoors, and it did great. I couldn't have gotten the audio I needed without it.I'm on a tight budget so I'm very picky and research every product I buy, to make sure it gives the best value and performance that I can attain. I think it is as good as some of the more expensive mics and one that you shouldn't pass up.

Much improved quality of sound than a regular microphone

Excellent Quality comparable to Shure-but at a much lower price.
Comparable to Shure quality in sound-yet lightweight, but durable. Use this on a professional level for documentary use (on Amazon Prime Video) and the sound quality is excellent. Doesn't pick up background noise. My only complaint is the microphone holder is cheap-but for the price who cares. A Great Value

LyxPro CMG-5 Shotgun Mic - Good quality at a low price
Surprisingly decent quality mic for the money. It has good noise canceling and eliminates much of the ambient room noise. Also works with fantom power which is handy.

Lots of buzzing
This being my first shotgun mic, I had no idea i would need an external audio recorder to supply power to the mic and get sound that didnt sound like my camera mic. I tried adding a battery amd it did nothing. The light came on for a second then went off. I finally got a zoom h4n to plug the mic into and hopefully give my some good sound quality but alas the sound was disapointing. The microphone litteratly picks up every little noise around it. (Even from the sides). I did a silence test and all I could hear was buzzing and low frequency noise (I even had the low cut/high pass filter on). I would not recomend this microphone for recording any audio. However it does a good job for recording sound effects. I recorded quite a few sound effects for a short scene I filmed and they sounded great! Thats why this mic gets an extra star.

Excellent performance.
It has been deployed to pick up the choir audio during our live streaming. It is located in the balcony at a distance of approximately 20 meters and has been delivering surprisingly good quality audio. A great value!

It's a $23 Mic...
..and you get what you pay for. That isn't to say that it's a bad mic. In fact, it's decent for the price. The sound is a bit muffled even with the high pass filter on. It picks up more noise than other shotgun mics I've used (some of that is the self noise, mind you). The fact of the matter is, if you're on a budget and this is the only mic like this you can afford, it will work. You just have to spend a lot of time in post in order to get it to sound as good as some of the more expensive "cheaper" shotguns.CONS:The red light when you turn the mic on only comes on for a second, then it goes out. The mic is still working, but you can't see the light. You would forget to turn it off because of this at some point and burn out a battery. Always make sure you take extra batteries and ensure that you turn off the mic before you put it away. The mic clip doesn't come with a 5/8" to 3/8" mic stand adapter. So, you will need to have your own.The mic clip is cheap and flimsy and frankly I don't want to use the one that came with it for fear it'll break.Could be much more directional, like true shotgun mics.PROS:Better than the internal mic on my mirrorless cameraIt's 23 US dollars, which is pretty cheap.Feels decently put together, though not as sturdy as other shotguns I've used.

Did not work
I bought this mic and it didn't work.I would plug it into my Behringer mixer and use it with phantom power, but it would barely pick up any sound even when I maxed out the gain. I tried with the battery. Same thing. I tried placing the mic 1 ft away from my face still no sound. I tried putting it right up to my mouth, but still no sound. I emailed the company, but no response. Save yourself the hassle and don't buy this mic. I'm going to try and return it.

Well made, but definitely not a 'shotgun' mic
Well made. Shipping was very slow, but they told me that up front, so I expected that. However, the pickup pattern does not fit my idea of a 'shotgun' mic. Pickup at 90 degrees off axis is little different from straight on, and 'reach' of the device is no better than any other microphone I have. Tried to return it, but Amazon said to contact seller for return authorization. After 3 tries, I still didn't hear back from them, even though their mail 'bot' said a support ticket had been opened. Amazon made good on the purchase and gave me a refund anyway. Good for Amazon. Bad for seller.
