Great sizing, even for plus-sized individuals!!!
We used this brand to equip our entire family! We have started to get very active, taking up sports like skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, rollerblading and biking, so we wanted something to take the edge off of falls. I was uncertain about sizing, so I'm providing our details below, in case that might help anyone else who is also uncertain about fit. We have average sized 8-year-old and 10-year-old girls. My husband is 6 feet tall and 230 pounds. I am a 5' 8" female. At the time I purchased these, I weighed 275 pounds. I carry a lot of my weight in my hips and thighs, so for my height and weight, I have larger than average measurements in my butt and legs. Searching for a product like this proved to be quite frustrating because I couldn't find anything that I was confident would even come close to fitting without squeezing me like a sausage. I stumbled upon this brand with a wider range of sizes and took a chance, hoping it would fit comfortably without restricting my movement. I purchased a pair for each member of our family. We were so pleased with the fit and comfort! Being padded, they are naturally a little bulky, so they aren't necessarily "form flattering," but they aren't bad either. My kids were a little worried about "not looking cool" but the pads aren't super noticeable when worn under roomy snow pants or loose pants like sweatpants. My husband and kids have had some impressive wipeouts thus far, both on asphalt and snow, and they all said they were really thankful they had the pads on. I found them very helpful while experiencing a lot of falls on hard, icy snow during snowboarding lessons. We wear the padded shorts underneath our clothing for two reasons- the kids don't want to stand out with pads worn over their clothes, and also because when doing active sports, we wear clothing that we assume will receive a lot of wear and tear. We want to protect our investment in the shorts, so we wear them underneath our clothing to keep them protected. Regarding sizes, I got the XXXL, and found it to be VERY comfortable with a lot of flex in the fabric, so it doesn't make you feel like a sausage. It allowed me great fit (didn't worry about them slipping down under my clothing) and total range of motion without any squeezing, discomfort or restriction. My husband got the XXL and was happy with the fit. The kids tried the Medium and they were happy with the sizing as well. We have used these regularly on our adventures for the last 3 months and have had only good experiences with them! I highly recommend them!

Good cheap protection
Updat after a few months: SCA fighters: these shorts don't provide enough impact resistance against leg wrap shots! The padding is great but won't keep you from bruising without a rigid cover.Be careful with sizing! Some comments say these run large but I didn't find that to be true for me. I'm 5'9" 200 lbs and wear size large (34" waist) shorts. I bought a medium after reading the comments but they are smaller than I'd like and are a bit high off the knee.Great coverage for the price. The shorts are built so the pads can come out for washing but the material that holds the pads in looks pretty flimsy. I don't expect them to last very long but I also didn't pay a lot for them.

Size runs a bit large
I had to return one of these to get the next size down. Perhaps I could have avoided that had I heeded previous comments, but I tried it first with the size I typically wear and they do, in fact, run a bit large. Now that I have the correct size, they are very comfortable and don't look or feel as bulky as I feared. I bought them for biking and they fit nicely under my biking bib with long legs. I haven't tried them under my bib shorts, but it seems they will fit OK. I haven't "load-tested" them yet (knock on wood), but the padding feels pretty robust. Being over 65 I decided I needed some added protection, particularly for the hips. I don't think these will insure I will never fracture one, but they should take out some of the energy and that alone gives me a little more peace of mind.

Great for Ice Hockey
Added these under my breezes to protect my tailbone. They work great!

Small Sizing
I ordered XXL. I’m 6’3 #230 and these were not even close to a fit. XXL would probably fit someone 6, and #195.

Awesome added protection for learning to snowboard
I am 30 and was learning to snowboard for the first time this winter. It was a very icy season so I had a few really painful falls at the beginning right on my tailbone. I was getting discouraged but a friend recommended padded shorts and so I ordered these. I cannot explain how happy I am that I got them. They aren’t super bulky but I ended up taking out all the pads other than the tailbone area since that’s what was causing pain when I fell and they also fit better under my snow pants this way. These shorts ended up taking some of the fear out of falling and made it far less painful. I wore them every time I went to the mountain for the rest of the season, and I think any person any age or skill level could benefit from a little extra padding for those hard falls! Highly recommend!

The padding is amazing
Used this for soccer goalie pants love the padding however I wish the back to protect the tail bone could be removed.

First pair I ordered were used. Second pair are much better.
Original review:You can tell someone wore these and then returned them and I don’t mean they just tried them on then sent them back. Both hips and the butt area have worn fabric. The photos show where the fabric has started to pill and fray from use. They arrived like this! There were no tags attached to this product and it arrived smelling like someone sprayed it down with linen scented febreze. These will be returned. Hesitant to order a different pair.Update: I have ordered a second pair of these. I even bought a smaller size because the used ones looked way too big. Happy to report the second pair in the smaller size and 100 times better. They are clean, no air freshener smell, have definitely never been used, and even have tags on them. Changed rating from 1 to 4 stars. Haven’t had a chance to try them out yet so I can’t give 5 stars until I know how well they work. For reference, I’m a size 14 in womens with most of my weight in my butt and thighs and the second pair I ordered are an XL and they fit great. Not tight but definitely don’t feel like they will become loose during movement. I’ve added 3 more photos to the original post. It’s pretty easy to tell the used shorts from the new ones I received. I’m sending the original ones back today so hopefully they accept them in the condition they are in and without tags since that’s how they looked when I got them.
