Beneath the Surface
Emily has done it again. This book is very well written and the characters are very well etched out. Dialogue is spot on and the spice is top notch. This book is more gritty and heavier in some ways. Enjoyed reading it and will recommend - 4.5 stars. The 0.5 stars deducted for the following things:1. Doesn’t explain why she ran but still stayed with Darryl for 6 of the years after she ran. And it says that Darryl knew where she was and that she had a kid, but she said she’s not returning home to keep hiding, so it’s all very confusing. This plot thread isn’t clearly explained.2. The Mason’s dad angle didn’t add much to the overall story. It’s also a bit sloppy how he ‘exposed’ his father when just a scene prior he thinks that his father is super powerful and can make serious trouble in Lily’s life. If he was so powerful, it shouldn’t have been so easy to take him down. Again, not cleanly executed.3. She has been through child abuse herself but seems to leave her child with what is a male stranger she’s met hardly a week ago. I appreciate she was in a tight place but she could have asked Anabelle. However, I loved Mason and baby Chase’s interaction so even though it didn’t make sense I can’t complain4. Was a bit drawn out in the middle - when she goes home and learns about what’s happening there while Mason is with his family. Needed a bit of tighter editing hereHowever, like I said, this is a good book and it’s very spicy which is amazing. It’s definitely something I’m pleased to have read and I will read all of Emily’s books because she’s a great author

Good read
This was my first read of a book by emily mcintire. It was difficult at times to read because of the content and its not your average romance. I liked the journey and storyline and how they connected.

Such a good series
This was an amazing end to the series. I'm so glad we finally got Lily 's story. I loved Mason too, I did guess the truth about him early on.I'm a sucker for HEAs so I loved the epilogues in this book.

Perfect end to a fabulous series...
"And through it all, I’ll remember the wind..."*Lily Adams has been lost and broken for most of her life with demons and scars that run so deep she struggles not to let them drag her under. She's been fighting to get by all for the sake of her son because if there's one thing she's certain of, she will not be anything like her own mother, her son will always come first. But in order to keep them both safe she's ran away from everyone she knows, shutting the world out. That is until Mason begins to wedge his way in. Mason who should not, under any circumstances, be getting close to Lily and who, despite everything, just can't stay away from her. I guess in the end, we all have our secrets, but will they lead to broken hearts or will sharing the burden help to heal their shattered souls?*"But there’re some things that just can’t be erased — tattoos that get etched beneath the surface, carved so deep they brand your soul..."*Emily McIntire has done it again - what a book and what a story, filled to the brim with honest and raw emotions! I couldn't put this book down, I was sucked in and completely invested in Lily, Mason and their journey together. And the twists just kept on coming! My heart ached for Lily and all she had to endure but how she still managed to keep it all together for her son, because that's what good parents do.I didn't think it was possible with how much I love the Sugarlake Series, and the men from Book 1-3, but Mason has taken the top spot! He's everything that Lily needed and I found myself swooning! I was balling during the last chapter, especially with the ending line which is absolutely perfect! And those two epilogues were everything...*“Let yourself be happy..."*Emily has a pure talent for weaving together relationships that are so honest, baring every vulnerability and weakness, along with undeniable chemistry and very steamy romance that keeps me coming back for more! I can't wait to see more from this amazing author!*"And happiness is a funny thing. When one person has it, it spreads like ivy, winding its way around everyone else; if only they let it grow..."
