As avid readers, we all must have dreamt of opening our own little bookshop as we were growing up. Dreaming of meeting fellow bibliophiles, discussing books and making a living out of this innocent dream. Nina is very much like us. She works as a librarian and devours books. All seems to be rosy for a while until one fateful day, this library had to be closed down and Nina is helpless. “The problem with good things that happen is that very often they disguise themselves as awful things” Sometimes a 'NO' is the perfect answer...it is how the universe directs you to the right path. It is very easy to wallow in self pity and keep hanging onto closed doors, not realising a new door is waiting for you. “Some people go through life not really deciding to do much, not wanting to, always too fearful of the consequences to something new” Taking something you love, such as reading and books, and turning it into a business sounds like a dream come true. However, operating a bookstore on your own is quite a challenge. Nina, with many insecurities bogging her down, still takes this plunge into unknown. And instead of worrying about how this might turn out, she decides to live out her dream - to open a bookstore so she can find the right book for the right person. Will Nina succeed in running a library in Scottish Island? its not the brick and motor one but the one on wheels so she can zip across country side and get people back to the lost art- the art of reading. Right from the word go, Nina experiences resistance everywhere - from buying an old van in Scotland, to moving to the country side from bustling Birmingham, London. With many doubts she steps into country side, only to be charmed by the people and the community vibe. It was liberating to step put out of fast paced city life and ease into country side living. “It just feels like you can breathe up there: like these silly day-to-day problems and worries don’t matter so much any more. That there’s actually time to think about your life and what you want to do, instead of just racing from work to bar to dates to the gym to stupid stuff.” We also come across some wonderful characters – Nina’s flatmate, Surinder, Colleague-Griffin and some friends on the Train-Marek and Jim and off course her landlord, John Lennox and his adorable dog, Parsley. Can a girl who has lived in a big city, Birmingham all through her life adjust to country life and will she be successful in doing what she loves to do and will she find true love forms the rest of the story. It’s a wonderful book that makes you want to pull a Nina in your life and do something about your dreams. And if you love reading, then you will fall in love with her reading preferences she drops onto her customers once in a while. I bought a kindle version and devoured it in 3 days!!! Reading this book filled me with a warm and a fuzzy feeling...especially needed during this Pandemic times when we are very much confined to our homes. Just reading about open vistas in Scotland might just be what you are looking for.It was liberating to read this feel good book.Highly recommend this!!!

Like all Jenny Colgan's books, this novel is a warm, escapist read. Her Scotland is a wonderful place to escape to and features romances between large, stereotypical Scots and small vulnerable but feisty English girls which end in happy marriages. Jenny Colgan's writing is amusing and ideal for lifting the mood of anyone who is finding reality hard to deal with.

As usual. Cant go wrong with Jenny Colgan.
