In my quest to embrace more gentlemanly ways, I was anxious to try the Taconic Shave Bay Rum Shampoo Bar. I'm coming up on my 40th birthday and my hair, sadly, is thinning at an alarming rate. As such, I want to take care of it as best I can, which to me includes searching out more natural ways of taking care of myself.This was my first experience with s shampoo bar, so I didn't quite know what to expect. Thanks to other amazon.com reviews, I cut the bar in half and gave it two orbits around my head. That was more than enough to work up a great lather. What surprised me, however, was just HOW clean my hair was after rinsing. We've all heard the phrase "squeaky clean." Well, that's exactly what my hair was. It was quite literally squeaky. Amazing.I would heartily recommend this shampoo bar - it smells great, is likely to last a long time, and left my hair cleaner than it's probably ever been.***August 30th Update***Well, after using shampoo bars for the last couple of months, I've made curious discovery. My sister who's been cutting my hair for the last 12 years noticed that I had a lot of new, tiny little hairs growing around my crown (I'm not balding, but I have noticed a lot of thinning the last couple of years). Coincidence? Possibly. However, the only thing that's changed in the last 3 months is what I've been using to wash my hair. I think it stands to reason that eliminating artificial ingredients and preservatives stimulates hair growth.Also, if you're wondering how long this will last, one bar, even used generously, will easily last you two months. If you just give it a pass or two, you'll probably get 2 1/2 - 3 months out of it. I also weighed a new bar on my kitchen scale and it came in at 5 3/8 ounces - so their 5.5 oz claim is spot on.I'll be a customer for life.

I like this product. The price is reasonable. It does a great job with my hair. In fact, better than my regular shampoo. My criticism is that it doesn't have a clear lime scent. I would like the line scent to be stronger.

UPDATE: My original review was posted in 2015. I’ve used this bar shampoo since then and still love it.For some reason a couple of months ago I stopped using it. I guess I just got lazy and didn’t order any. I started using the Herbal Essence my wife buys. After a month or so I realized that my hair looked terrible. Just lost all volume. It was limp and would get oily much faster.So I decided I needed to go back to this bar. I can honestly say after one wash with this my hair felt and looked much better. I’ve now been using this again for a couple of weeks and I am much happier with the look and feel of my hair.This is a fantastic product that works very well with my hair. I believe it is the natural oils it contains that keep my hair looking and feeling so good.ORIGINAL REVIEW:This is my first experience with a solid shampoo. So I wasn't sure what to expect. I like it. I cut a third of the bar as that would fit in my soap dish. It doesn't take much to make more lather than you can possibly use. I just rub the bar once around my head and it lathers up big time. In two weeks of twice daily use I have used about half of the piece I cut, so about a sixth of the bar.I'm not a bay rum expert. I use Col. Conks Bay Rum shave soap and it smells fantastic. This is not even close. It smells very strong of cinnamon. With that said it is a pleasant scent. Frankly as soon as I rinse it the smell is gone. I didn't expect this to be a cologne, just to give me clean hair and it does that very well.How does it clean?My hair has not felt this clean in years. It is so soft and light. It just feels naturally clean. For that, I love this bar. I will continue using it for years to come.

This shampoo bar in no way smells like Bay Rum. Not even close. I tried my very best to pick out a hint of bay and cannot find it in the scent. It does, however, smell so much like pumpkin spice that I don't believe this was ever intended to be Bay Rum. Seems more like someone was shooting for pumpkin spice and decided Bay Rum would be a better sell so they just renamed it.I gave it 3 stars because I like the idea of solid shampoo bars and worked well. It left my hair clean and light. Just don't expect Bay Rum. Plan on pumpkin spice that is heavy on the cinnamon.

I'm testing a handful of Bay Rum soaps, and this one was the 4th.I really dig the smell of this bar - it's deep and spicy, and smells like the best parts of Pumpkin Pie crossed with a breeze summer night in the tropics. The soap lathers well and left my body and hair feeling and smelling fresh and clean, but delightfully spicy. Also - SUPER TINGLY, like it's carbonated! THAT said, the bar didn't hold up AT ALL in the shower - it got slimy in the first week and despite being left out to dry on the counter for a week, it never recovered. I had to throw a third of the bar away because it just got gross to touch. It didn't impact it's usefulness at all, mind, but eww.
