Cleans good. No scent.
It’s alright. This is my first time using a shampoo bar. It gets my hair clear and seems to keep it from getting greasy longer. I also cut out head and shoulders and my dandruff has not made a return while using this. The main drawback is that the one I received has virtually no scent to it. The dry bar has fragrance but when I had my wife smell my hair straight out of the shower she said i just smelled like wet hair. After I blow dried my hair she had it smelled like hot hair. On another occasion I let my hair air dry and she said “I think I can smell it...”I don’t need a ton of fragrance but a little bit would be nice. Other reviewers stated that the scent from theirs was overpowering so it seems that the product is inconsistent. The pros- cleans well. Hair feels good. No dandruff.- there is no plastic waste in the form of bottles.- it seems it will last a while. I cut my bar into fourths and have been using the first quarter for a little over a month now and it has plenty of use left. I wash my hair every couple days.I just wish it smelled like something.

Best Shampoo Bar on the Market!!
UPDATE: May 2018: I have used these bars for 1 1/2 years now and I cannot use them to care for my long mane any longer. They will still work well for short hair but not if you’re banking on gorgeously long locks. The quality is still 5 stars however simply not recommended for long term hair care of lengthy manes. I’ve decided to paste a message I wrote to a friend which further details my plight:I wanted to say that I’m no longer using shampoo bars. I lathered with them for 1 1/2 years and now I’ve never seen my hair so broken. You see I really couldn’t figure out a way to condition it naturally since when switching to only shampoo bars, most commercial conditioners as well as leave-in conditioners do not work on hair, causing tresses to become very gummy and limp. This happens because the shampoo bars don’t strip hair as much as liquid shampoo does. I did try oiling with mustard seed oil and olive oil however I don’t think they worked well for me. Once I washed the oil out my mane didn’t feel silky after a few times oiling. My hair only felt silky the first time I used the mustard seed oil however not the consecutive sessions with either mustard seed nor olive oils. Coconut oil made my hair very brittle by the way! Do NOT use!! I found an article explaining how oil isn’t exactly a moisturizer. I was truly at a loss as to what else to do 🙁 So I didn’t condition for a couple months. Before oiling I really didn’t use any type of conditioner which was fine for quite some time. Although after many, many moons my locks look awful hence my attempt towards the end in oiling to save my hair. I’m truly appalled by the breakage. I’m returning to regular liquid sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I found a couple more eco friendly varieties by Maui Moisture and Jason. It’s simply ashame I couldn’t get the shampoo bars to workout.*****Previous review which should apply to short lengths of hair:I cannot say enough good things about this shampoo bar except it's the best one on the market! I'm a woman with long, wavy dyed hair and I love it! It lathers up thick and beautifully and it's scent is rather fakey lime however it dissipates quickly and will not be left on your mane! I have looked at the ingredients on almost every shampoo bar available and this is the only one without olive oil. That is the reason I decided to try this bar especially. Almost every shampoo bar has olive oil listed as an ingredient. After messaging several companies about the origin of their olive oil they either don't know or are using olive oil from Italy. Italy does not send America 100% pure olive oil. Italy does not grow enough olives to supply the world with enough pure olive oil. They keep the real stuff for themselves and send us oil that has cheaper miscellaneous oils added in or they send an entirely different oil masked as olive. Olive oil is very easy to fake. You can learn more by researching on YouTube etc. I don't want to use cheap oil on my long hair. I'm so HAPPY I found this bar needless to say and I pray they never cease making it! I have tried shampoo bars from Dirty Divas on Etsy and they were so, so. Their scent wasn't as glorifying as the description claimed and they use olive oil from Italy so I nixed those after trying four of them. I didn't like Chagrin Valley shampoo bars either because of the same reason being their use of oil from Italy and also canola oil which is a very unhealthy oil. Thank you very much Taconic for living up to high standards! I have used your Bay Rum bar before and prefer it as it truly has the aroma of spiced pumpkin pie rather. Lastly, I found it easier to cut this bar in half and begin use that way. With sopping wet hair I rub the bar in one direction over and over on my crown and sides and then scrub. I then re-wet the back of my scalp and scrub there. This makes for a rich lather and successful hair wash! The key to rich lather is sopping wet hair. If you find there isn’t enough lather after applying soap, simply re-wet a bit and you’ll experience more suds. If you have hard water, follow the instructions found on the J.R. Liggett’s website in the FAQs. It will tell you what to do. If you don’t follow the directions on their website and wash with hard water you will get gummy hair from all the heavy minerals in the hard water. However there’s an easy way to make it work even if you’re using hard water! Stand your bar up to dry away from where it may encounter water. Rotate sides so every area of your bar will dry in between uses. Finally, purchase a silk pillowcase! Watch silk pillow case reviews on YouTube to find out more. They are essential to keep hair and skin in good condition since cotton wicks moisture from hair and skin. If you can’t afford a good quality one, look for pure silk clothing at thrift shops and make your own or buy some silk fabric to sew one. Aim to find silk which is 22 momme mulberry charmeuse. I use a silk eye mask too.

Pumpkin Spice, NOT Bay Rum.
This shampoo bar in no way smells like Bay Rum. Not even close. I tried my very best to pick out a hint of bay and cannot find it in the scent. It does, however, smell so much like pumpkin spice that I don't believe this was ever intended to be Bay Rum. Seems more like someone was shooting for pumpkin spice and decided Bay Rum would be a better sell so they just renamed it.I gave it 3 stars because I like the idea of solid shampoo bars and worked well. It left my hair clean and light. Just don't expect Bay Rum. Plan on pumpkin spice that is heavy on the cinnamon.

this is the good stuff
In my quest to embrace more gentlemanly ways, I was anxious to try the Taconic Shave Bay Rum Shampoo Bar. I'm coming up on my 40th birthday and my hair, sadly, is thinning at an alarming rate. As such, I want to take care of it as best I can, which to me includes searching out more natural ways of taking care of myself. This was my first experience with s shampoo bar, so I didn't quite know what to expect. Thanks to other amazon.com reviews, I cut the bar in half and gave it two orbits around my head. That was more than enough to work up a great lather. What surprised me, however, was just HOW clean my hair was after rinsing. We've all heard the phrase "squeaky clean." Well, that's exactly what my hair was. It was quite literally squeaky. Amazing.I would heartily recommend this shampoo bar - it smells great, is likely to last a long time, and left my hair cleaner than it's probably ever been.***August 30th Update***Well, after using shampoo bars for the last couple of months, I've made curious discovery. My sister who's been cutting my hair for the last 12 years noticed that I had a lot of new, tiny little hairs growing around my crown (I'm not balding, but I have noticed a lot of thinning the last couple of years). Coincidence? Possibly. However, the only thing that's changed in the last 3 months is what I've been using to wash my hair. I think it stands to reason that eliminating artificial ingredients and preservatives stimulates hair growth. Also, if you're wondering how long this will last, one bar, even used generously, will easily last you two months. If you just give it a pass or two, you'll probably get 2 1/2 - 3 months out of it. I also weighed a new bar on my kitchen scale and it came in at 5 3/8 ounces - so their 5.5 oz claim is spot on.I'll be a customer for life.
