Q: Can you mount it on painted wood surface?

I used the sticky pads, not just the suction cups on a wall that isn’t smooth in my kitchen. It worked great. I wouldn’t rely on just the suction.

Q: Could the suction take paint off the walls?

It does not suction to the walls. I used the "3M" plates that was also included. Those fell off the wall taking the paper towel holder and the paint. I have a semi-gloss painted wall and it is textured. It was past the return date.

Q: width of the metal is 20. or of the package it's sent in ?

The actual item is that size, not packaging.

Q: Are the adhesives easy to remove? Or do they leave a residue?

Very easy to remove with no residue.
