HOYA FUSION ONE is a series of filters based on new HOYA optical technology. It is an update on the best-selling HOYA PRO-1D series, which has been widely used by amateur and professional photographers all over the world. The word "ONE" in the naming of this series is maintained as legacy of HOYA PRO-1D, in memory of its contribution to photographers' creativity, with the belief that this new series will serve well for many decades ahead. FUSION ONE filters have been designed to match the rigorous standards and optical capabilities of modern, high-resolution lenses. They join the HOYA filter line-up as a fusion of all the highly valued specifications: Multi-layer coating, ultra-high light-transmission, professional-grade optical glass and a low-profile filter-frame. They additionally incorporate stain resistance and a water-repellent coating. The PROTECTOR filter is designed for constant use and is recommended for shielding your valuable lenses from expensive front element damage that could be caused by knocks, dirt or scratches.

Essential protection for your lens
So you have just got a new lens and you want to throw it in your kit bag and go and test it out - but wait... before you do anything there is one essential accessory that you must purchase - and this is it.You spent hundreds on a new lens so why not spend a bit more to protect that lens from scratches, smudges and any nasty stuff floating about? I'm an old-school photographer coming from the days of film and when I was taught photography one of the first lessons was, always use a UV filter. There were two reasons: one to remove a tint from the pictures and secondly to protect the lens. Nowadays the first reason no longer exists with digital cameras but the second one is, for me, still an absolute rule. There are a few reasons why you might want to take the filter off (e,g, to avoid rare ghosting or flares in bright light) but otherwise, for me, the UV filter is on 24/7. To put it simply, I would rather have the filter scratched or suffering from weather (water spots, sand or dust scratches, etc.) which can be cleaned or thrown away than having a compromised much more expensive lens. So, having decided that this filter is an essential the next question must be, "which brand?"You can spend £5 or you can spend 10 times the amount (actually, you can even spend 20x) and within those prices there are lots of different price points with lots of different qualities. Hoya is one of "the" names in filters, a tried and tested brand that can be trusted to deliver good quality products. After recently purchasing two new lenses I turned to Hoya for the front-end layer of protection that I wanted. The result was me buying two of these filters at a great price - currently discounted by 30% which just sweetened the deal. They arrive in a hard case which is an extra bonus because if you do need to take the filter off you have a snap-close case in which to store it. The filter is crystal-clear (of course) and threaded top and bottom so that it is possible to stack filters even if that is not always recommended.Do I recommend this filter? Oh yes, so much so that I have a Hoya polarizing filter on order as I type this review. To protect your lens this is a really good deal which I would order again in a heartbeat. Good quality too.

Marked improvement
I’ve tried to take into consideration other peoples reviews, as they can swing wildly from 1 star to 5.So I had the Hoya Pro1 and broke it, which saved my lens and caused me to buy a new one. So I’m comparing it to that. The crispness of the image is massively improved, it thin slim build is just as easy to attach to and remove from the lens. There is no vignetting on my 24-105mm lens, through out the zoom range. I will also add there is no vignetting on my 10-22mm lens throughout the full zoom range. On both counts this is with just this filter on. So I am very impressed with this filter, and would definitely recommend it.

Difficulty with screw thread but otherwise OK.
I bought this filter to replace a scratched Hoya Pro1 Digital Protector filter. I found it was difficult to locate the filter and screw it into the lens body. I tried the old Hoya Pro1 filter and it screwed in first time every time. I then tried again with my new Hoya Fusion ONE filter, after several attempts I eventually succeded.I was concerned the the new filter might damage the thread of my lens - but it doesn't appear to have. I was also concerned that this might not be a genuine Hoya filter - but Amazon is on the list of genuine suppliers on the Hoya website. Otherwise, the filter is fine and gives good picture quality - I would have scored it a "5" if it wasn't for the thread problems.

Excellent quality, updated version of filter
Bought a couple as previous 52mm filters looking a bit used now. Updated version of multi coated Protection filter with apparently added improvements which will only prove themselves in use. Fits perfectly, confident they will do a good job permanently attached as a simple but important protection with no loss of quality to images.

A UV Filter Replacement for Digital Cameras
I have always bought Hoya UV filters for all of my lenses since I first owned a film camera. Digital cameras no longer need external UV protection so why bother fitting a filter. Well simply to protect the front element of my lens from dust, scratches and any other accidents that could damage the front element. I guess a lens hood would also provide a degree of protection too.
