I got good results installing this camera with an auto dimming mirror that has a built in monitor. The camera has a RCA output and the mirror has a RCA input. The new camera has a trunk switch which releases the trunk lock. Viewing angle is correct. The wiring instructions that came with the camera do not work on a VW car. The instructions say to connect the camera power to the car reverse lights. VW reverse lights do not put out 12 volts, so the camera does not work or there is a lot of interference. Voltage regulators and noise filters did nothing to help. I got the camera to work properly by using an automotive relay, the little black cube with 5 terminal connections on the bottom. The reverse light voltage is strong enough to trigger the relay, so I connected the + to terminal 85 and a ground to terminal 84. I ran a new line directly from the fuse box to the trunk and connected to terminal 30. The the out put from terminal 87 is connected to the camera +. I connected the same negative from terminal 84 directly to the cameras negative. The results are that when I put the car in reverse it triggers the relay, and I get the correct voltage to the camera. See attach picture for results. Be warned that this is a big job: added a fusible link to the fuse box; connected the red wire on the RCA cable to the fusBle link; ran the RCA cable from the fuse box, to the trunk under the door sills on drivers side; pulled back the liner in the trunk to locate the reverse+ (it was a light blue wire in my case); installed the automotive relay where I tapped into the reverse wire; removed the plastic cover on the rear lid arm to get the wires into the lid, removed the rectangular panel on the inside of the rear lid (there are two screws and eight clips holding it in place); then you can access the backside of the old trunk switch. There are two 10mm nuts holding the old trunk switch. This camera should work with any monitor or radio with a RCA input. However the old RNS315 & RNS510 headunits use a RGB 26 pin input, so I don't know if there are any reliable adapters.

Works great. Not a simple installation with the wiring but was worth the time and effort. Unfortunately our Navi system in the SUV is not compatible with most back up cameras so we purchased a special visor to work with it since we only need it to pin on a RV/trailer. We just plug the visor to the wires and voilà, instant back up camera and once pinned we just unplug and store the visor away.
