Harry Potter fans!
The story was a little difficult to follow as far as a sequel. But, if you like magic, give it a try. Remember this is the third in the series.

Don't miss it - can be read alone or as part of the Poppy Pendle series!
I absolutely loved this book and thought it was the best in the series! It could be read first since Miss Mabel is a Victorian witch who was "Great Granny Mabel" in the stories involving Poppy Pendle and Cat Campbell. The central message of "Dare to push boundaries and fly against the wind" is a great one for girls - and everyone else. The importance of friendship, tenacity, and creativity are key elements, and the author treats adoption, one of the book's central themes, with compassion and grace to the very end. I thought it was terrific and whimsical that Mabel questioned the status quo of witches (then) riding sidesaddle on their broomsticks and advocated for a more sensible riding position. Appealing age-appropriate "potions" and recipes are included, as in previous books in the series. I noticed on the author's Facebook website that Mabel has been selected as a Junior National Book Guild Selection; I'm not surprised as I've already bought five copies for gifts!

A Great-Great Read
It's a great book. We finally get to hear the story of Poppy Pendle's great granny, Mabel's childhood and how she became a great witch. Mabel is both cute and spunky. There is even a minor appearance of the Punch & Judy puppets in the story. I recommend this book to anyone who loved the first two books or Victorian England settings.

My daughter loved it!
My 5 year old daughter loved this book. I started reading Poppy Pendle to her and we ended up buying Cat Campbell and Miss Mabel. It was the first chapter book she didn't want me to stop reading.
