They have living creatures inside that need care to survive.
people didn’t do their research on how to keep them ALIVE and take care of them. Because these ARE living creatures that need things to survive... your also holding their entire habitat until they are ready to come out... and that has to be taken care of properly or they will very quickly die... it’s possible by the time You get them they will need water quite badly. They are not going to be too active if they are dehydrating and their home is dehydrating. Research how to take care of them. You can’t fill their home with water they will drown and die. It needs to be like rain. So drops can seep in for them to drink don’t toss them in a cup of water u will kill them.. don’t expose them to anything they wouldn’t normally be exposed to in nature. Like submerging them in a glass of water. Shaking them. Dropping them stepping on them trapping them in extreme temperatures they can not escape. They die. Its actually quite simple to keep them alive until they hatch if u just know what they do,why they do it,and know what happens in nature to them. And simulate that. They need water to drink but their seed also needs water because it will dehydrate/ If it drys up they will starve. If you keep I too wet it will mold.they will die. If you throw it in water it will fill. They will die. What you can do is use a spray bottle to spray them once a week or.. more sometimes depending on their environment and each seed...so when they look like they could use it. They are active in heat and light. Put them in the window seal. They will jump. They need the exercise. But allow them shade to hide in always..incase You leave them too long/forget...and so they are not helpless. They know their own needs. They jump in the heat and sun to get to the shade so they don’t dehydrate themselves or their seed they feed on. At least I think they still eat it at this point.either way..So they don’t drown.. etc When your not exercising them or watching them keep them in a dark place that’s not hot. Maybe a bit cool like shade would be in nature.. One of mine Eventually accidentally??too soon ,ate? his way out ( it was a perfect hole.. but it was still a larva..) .. it even spun silk and began repairing it.I got to see it which was cool. It worked so hard closing that hole .. but it eventually died...They were all active every seed.I got three containers I believe.. i expected some to be dead.. it was three years ago..and most of them, more then most probably came out as small moths and I released them as they hatched one by one.eventually they stop jumping because they will hatch soon as a month. They were not active when I first got them. But they did travel.. got banged around. Had no sunlight or water.. and needed taken care of.. water light. Lots of dark rest. After a few days they were very responsive to light even they heat of my hands.. very strong. I do recommend buying these. If your going to take care of them like the living creatures they are.and can make a commitment to caring for them until they hatch and fly away. They are not just beans that jump. They are homes, food, protection, vehicles, etc.. for living creatures inside of them- that have needs...if you can accept that and commit to them- I think it’s enjoyable fun connecting-happy&sad(cuz the one who fixed his hole but didn’t make it) rewarding Educating fascinating-etc..and I think anyone could find it these things also- and will have their own personal experience- you will enjoy it. If I get more, I will get them here because they were all alive healthy active and thriving. After the initial shock of traveling. Don’t give up on them just because they are not moving around yet. They don’t always show signs of live.. They are in there! And they are alive! D Ur hand is hot enough to get most moving.. the sun. Even light just making them think they are in sun.. If They are not moving it’s most likely because they are in need of care.. weak.. shock.. or maybe even ready to hatch soon.stop leaving bad reviews because you thought you were going to get a bean that jumps and needs no maintenance and probably never thought about the fact that it’s supposed to hatch.

Hatched
I ordered this for my grandsons, the instructions said to put them in a dark place. They were placed in a dresser drawer. When I took them out to give them as a gift the larve hatched into moths. We never saw them jump and they hatched out. Very disappointing

Alive...alive, alive, alive!
Are you old enough to remember these clicking and wobbling in a stand up display at the checkout of your favorite store as a kid? I'm almost 50 years old now, and I'm still charmed by that memory and by these little things. I ordered these for my grandson and my girlfriend's son for Christmas, not knowing if they'd be alive when they arrived...much less if they'll still be alive a month from now when Christmas arrives. I live in Northern Illinois, and wasn't sure if the cold temperatures at this time of year might kill them. Actually, I think it would if it were freezing. But from the insert included with the beans, it seems that they're dormant in cooler temperatures (around 45 degrees) and "wake up" around 98.6 degrees. They recommend storing them in the butter compartment of your refrigerator to keep them dormant. When I got them from my mailbox, they were silent with no movement. But within 20 minutes or so inside the house, they were moving and clicking around in their respective little jewel cases. I couldn't have been happier! For now, though, I've placed them in my refrigerator to try and keep them dormant until Christmas.I just wanted anyone else who's interested in these to know that I think they'll be a great little stocking stuffer and gift for your little loved ones of the "next generation", and I'm pretty sure they'll be alive when Christmas gets here. I'm hoping so, anyway!Jeeez...almost 50 years old, and I'm still fascinated by Mexican jumping beans. :) I guess we all have our favorite memories. If you order, I hope you'll enjoy yours as much as I've already enjoyed mine.

Hatched before delivered
I ordered these for a kindergarten lesson and was very excited. Unfortunately, many arrived already hatched and dead. Needless to say, I had to scrap the lesson and come up with something else.

Very active little guys
The media could not be loaded. I bought these for my grandson, as I don't believe he's ever seen them before. They were not moving when they first arrived. But very soon after, they started hopping around like crazy. They are all very active. No dead ones. Very happy with my purchase, and my grandson loves his new "pets".

Some don't work.
I received 3 little boxes with 5 beans in each. One set of five I think are dead because they have not moved since I got the yesterday. I followed the instructions to no avail.
