Great headsets. Double check that they are turned off
Based on the various reviews I concluded with confidence that these were either excellent or horrible. The deciding factor for me was that these appeared to be the best available. After using them for 10 months I can report that they work extremely well for our purpose. We are a couple with a 75 foot motor yacht and manage it ourselves. Docking, anchoring and reassuring my wife on watch while I’m below can all be done at no more than whisper level volume. The sound quality is excellent with zero static interference. For some inexplicable reason they have two systems for turning the headsets on and off. The master has a simple sliding on / off switch that leaves one without doubt as to its status. The slave however has a button that needs to be held for “4-5 seconds” and has a light which may or may not appear when headset is on or off (I can only imagine (hope?) this serves some purpose when using multiple slaves in tandem). If for example you press the slave on / off button for 3 seconds it may remain on and the only way to check is to press the button again. To test you need to depress the volume button which lights up if the headset is on. I would put this quirk of design down to the many reviews complaining of poor battery life. If inadvertently left on the headset will drain. Note that inserting the battery into the slave turns it on. We have found that we can get 4 – 5 uses of a half hour each before needing to charge the (included) rechargeable batteries.Note that there is an audible warning when the batteries are low and you will only have a few minutes of operation before they go dead. We have taken to charging them every other use to be on the safe side. They come with a nice padded, soft sided stowage case befitting a product of this expense and quality. I would not hesitate to recommend

A must have for clear comms
These headsets are a win win for work crews, we use them on our research vessel so the pilot can chat with deck ops team during launch and recovery work and docking/close quarters maneuvering. They are absolutely a game changer for safety over VHF radios, voices are clear and crisp, no more fumbling with push to talk buttons and people who don't understand how PTT works. Much less wind noise as well. The full duplex function of these sets makes communication with crew on the opposite end of the boat like they were standing next to you. The only drawbacks are battery life, typically only about 5-6 hours, so get extra batteries, and the ear cups coating falls apart and spare ear cups are stupid expensive for what they are. $29/set of 2. I would prefer just plain cloth ear cups, instead of the faux leather thin coating that falls apart after a year or so. The only other drawback is the master headset, which has to be in use for the others to work, so we make sure that one does not leave the pilothouse.

Clear communications
This is a great headset. We just used these for the first time and love them. They made docking our boat so much easier and safer. No more yelling to be heard. It sound like the person talking to you is standing right beside you. We are not sure about battery life, but plan to remove and charge the batteries after each use. I'll report later if there is an issue with short battery life.Follow-up: We've had the headsets for a year now and the are still performing like new. We have told friends about them and they too have purchased a set. We have not experienced any negative issues with the headsets, and the battery life is still good. This has been one of the most important purchases we made for the boat.

great headset, batteries not so great
These headphones are fantastic, We are able to park our 41 foot diesel powered motor home in our garage and still speak and hear each other with no problems. This includes me standing at the back of the motor home in a metal garage with the diesel engine roaring. The driver can still hear me clearly and I can hear the driver over the diesel roar. Great headphones!! Unfortunately the batteries are not so great, they do not hold a charge for long at all. We have to be sure to do a fresh charge before use in order to be able to get the motor home off the driveway into the garage. Putting up with it though because the function of the headphones is so good. Just need higher quality batteries.

As others have said, this should be named marriage saver, essential for marine enjoyment
This product seems overpriced at first glance. But then, how much is your marriage worth? The Eartec just function without drama, allowing you to communicate with your first mate at a whisper, even when there is serious engine noise in the background and they are at the other end of the boat and out of sight. Yelling and cursing are no longer a part of the boat trailer unloading, dock departure, boat docking and loading onto the boat trailer routines. Hand signals that never seem to make sense are no longer needed. The units do not require any fiddling with to sync up and user instructions on use can be boiled down to "put the headset on and speak into the microphone". The units are full duplex so you both can be speaking and listening to the other simultaneously, unlike walkie talkies, and both hands are free to tend to the rudder and lines. The construction quality is excellent. We use lanyards around our necks to keep them from accidentally falling into the drink when we bend over the railing or bump our head on something. Battery life is good, with one caveat. The "slave" units do not have an on-off switch, unlike the master, and the battery will run down if left in. We make a practice of removing the batteries from both the master and slave headsets after we are finished using them. We have an extra set of charged batteries along, but we have never needed to use them since the batteries seem to last for hours when used properly. This is one of the best purchases we have made for our boating activities. Because there is no need to raise voices to be heard, everything is calmer and the whole experience much more pleasant, even during the inevitable moments of excitement and stress.
