There is a link showing size chart for women, men and kids. In the kids size chart it tells you a size 6 or L (for kids) will fit a 5-6 year old that weighs up to 53 lbs or so. My son is 5 going on to 6 yrs old and the one I purchased for him was a small (when he was almost turning 5) because these do run slightly larger. It also depends on your kid if they are smaller and leaner (My son) or of heftier build. I would recommend to buy the medium or large. Also I remember using amazon wardrobe to test multiple brands and sizes on him to eventually get the right vest/jacket. Hope this helps.
