Book was broken when I received it. There was a tear on the upper left part of the cover page.

Definitely worth collecting if you love beautiful art, myth and fairy tales. I especially love the illustrations. Very nuanced and metaphorical. I really enjoyed seeing — and reading — the legends and myths from cultures around the world, including many I hadn't come accross despite my interest in myth. Chinese (especially Monkey King!), Japanese, Danish and North American Myth (plus, of course, Greek/Roman and Egyptian) and Tam Lin (my own heritage, i.e. Scotland) I'm fairly up on, plus Anansi, and other myths — thanks to Neil Gaimen's novels — but legends such as Timbo Tree, Mohini and Aravan, Princess Kaguya, the Legend of the Watermelon, Banjhakri and Banjhakrini, Yennenga, Nanahuatzin, Waramuruungundju, the Woman Who Was Kind to Insects (loved this one!), Mwindo -- and dozens of others -- were delightful new finds I'd never even heard of. Beautiful.I labeled this "evocative art book" so as to manage expectations. The author (who is the artist) does synopsize (in lovely style) each of the legends (78 in total), especially highlighting the scene depicted in her beautiful art — but don't come to this expecting a Grimm's fairy tales treatment (i.e. a full fleshed out story.) These are tightly written synopsis treatments -- none more than one page in length. This is perfect to wet the appetitle — spurring me to research these legends online. Yes, I'd have appreciated fuller story treatments, but the gorgeous art more than makes up for that.The book quality is also outstanding, a beautiful hard cover and full color with good reproduction of detail and color — for this price it's amazing.

La calidad del libro es preciosa: la encuadernación, el papel, la edición y la impresión son de excelente calidad.Ahora, las ilustraciones… ¡Wow! En verdad que se nota el trabajo desde la investigación y simbología utilizadas; la artista y autora tiene una gran mente, para concentrar el contenido de las historias en una síntesis gráfica tan magistral, es en verdad admirable.Los cuentos como tal, están resumidos brevemente, literal, en una cuartilla o menos, logra contar lo más imprescindible; lo que funciona muy bien como una invitación a conocer más, a investigar y sobre todo a comprender con un pedacito de cultura las razones de las decisiones tomadas para el deck de tarot de la autora.Si te interesan las historias, la cultura general y disfrutas un trabajo inteligente de ilustración, o simplemente te encantó el deck y te gustaría aprender un poquito más, este libro es maravilloso, en cualquier caso, no te vas a arrepentir y lo vas a disfrutar muchísimo!

I accidentally bought the cards thinking it was a book but wow I am grateful I have both now and it’s very well written and insightful stories !! I commend the author on a job well done the quality is just top tier !! Xo

Un libro bellissimo che raccoglie le 78 fiabe che hanno ispirato il mazzo di tarocchi collegato. Molto utile quindi per familiarizzare di più con quelle carte o per scoprire alcune storie magari più lontane culturalmente dalle fiabe classiche (che comunque pure sono presenti). I testi ovviamente non sono integrali ma si tratta di riassunti, vanno bene quindi per essere letti magari a bambini molto piccoli, una ogni sera per esempio. Le diverse storie poi possono essere approfondite in separata sede. Bellissime le illustrazioni.

A truly wonderful deck, the feel of the 'linen' card stock is amazing. I would recommend buying the separate book which explains the stories behind each card, it makes it so much easier to read. I am delighted with this deck.
