Frankenstein (The Norton Library)
L**2
Unusual notes format, but very useful and readable text, with excellent intro!
I had never read "Frankenstein" before, so this was a "novel" experience for me. I found the notes a bit puzzling, but I figured out the system quickly. (No footnote numbers are used; a degree sign appears right after the text to which a note applies. In "Notes," at the end of the book, there are volume-by-volume and chapter-by-chapter notes with page numbers.) I kept moving a Post-It in the Notes section to conform to whatever volume/chapter/page I was on. Now. Shelley's "Frankenstein" is truly a superb novel, an unexpected pleasure and treasure! Editor Michael Bérubé's Introduction is very, very insightful and useful. I would not hesitate to order another Norton Edition (note that this is not a Norton *Critical* Edition, which costs more and has various essays following the text of the novel). Thank you!
