University Games Murder Mystery Case File A Chef's Knife, 33283, For age 12 years and over

A good mystery game good for those who lost to solve mysteries and lots of information and clues and it’s really good mind game too.. my daughter loved it as her birthday gift.

Love this game, entertainment for few hours with friends!

The goal was to list the suspects and add 1) motive, 2) means, and 3) opportunity. If I had all three then I would find the killer. And so I read about this Napa Valley wine maker, his brother, his business partner, his secretary, his wife, his foreman and one of his friends. One of them had taken his life and tried to cover it up. To be honest, I had only read the Missing Person File and I already had my eyes set on one of the suspects. So when I read the Murder Investigation File I tried to keep this in mind and see if there were other things that fit and they did. Overall I didn’t find it so difficult to find the identity of the killer, and of the 6 possibilities 3 people fell off my list quite soon already. When you only hear once from them in a witness statement and the others don’t speak of them either, how are they supposed to be real suspects then? I did find the motive was kept very simple and I did miss some extra drama and intrigue between the different characters, like mistresses who had affairs with different men and then tension and jealousy between them… I didn’t feel much ’emotion’ coming off any of the characters and it’s all quite straight-lined, there are no complications. I know, I read too many stories, right? All in all I enjoyed this but I missed some extra game play, you’re done when you’ve read everything (I did take notes too so that I saw the important points in the statements) and you decide on a name. All you have to do then is check the solution on a private site (and there are a few clues too to get there if you need them), where they confirmed my suspicion, my suspect was in fact GUILTY. They also list all the clues (5 or 6) for you to have come to that conclusion.

Excellent way to pass an evening with friends. We managed to get the correct answer by paying close attention to all the evidence included.

First off this was the cheapest option, and having never tried something like this before I thought why not try it. It took me and one friend 2 and a half hours to complete (that is including a couple of drinks breaks and a couple of other distractions) the detail in the package is amazing, really gets your mind working without giving too much away. The online ‘hints’ were pretty obvious if you’ve managed to work the case properly but can see they’d be quite helpful if you got a bit stuck. Overall a great way to spend the evening, I think if there was more than 2 of you it might get solved a bit faster but either way we had a great night and will definitely be trying more things like this!

The presentation of this game is great. All the evidence (and there’s a lot of it) is well presented and looks authentic. However, it’s not all that difficult and having spent so much time looking through and reading all the evidence only a handful are actually relevant and easy enough to get you to the solution. The online hints are also pretty pointless, more cryptic clues than being of any help.

Great fun for the whole family. We spread it over two evenings but could easily be spread over an afternoon. Not too complex but definitely had us scratching our brains at points. The evidence was of good quality. There’s lots of reading but that’s to be expected, younger teens may struggle to maintain focus depending on their attention span. If you’re a lover of crime and mystery then this is for you.

This product is absolutely brilliant. I wanted to buy those “unsolved case files”, but was to cheap to fork out for them, so I hoped this would be similar. It was actually hard to solve and we had to use lots of the clues! Took us a couple of hours, money well spent!

This is so well constructed and I have been telling everyone I know to get this game. My friend and I bought this along with an escape room game and this definitely takes the cake. It provides you with paperwork to write on but it's not necessary and you can get away with using your own notebook. That way it can easily be passed on which I thought was great because it helps fund your next case file!! Which I most definitely will be purchasing! Great way to spend an evening critically thinking with friends and having fun doing it! Thanks so much to the creators! Keep it up!

I loved it!! I had so much fun with my siblings (the youngest is 11) we spent hours solving it we are definitely going to buy more!!

Very fun if you like feeling like a detective and solving problems. Super detailed, need to read A LOT! Great for a group of friends or even just alone!
