An Excellent representation of The Original
I've been waiting to see a completed visual version of this excellent story for a long time. I remember seeing most of the original broadcast on TV in the 1960s, and being impressed by seeing the Daleks moving around in the unexpected environment of an old Victorian mansion. Episode 2 still survives and I have this on the Missing Episodes Collection released some years ago. My fear was that the BBC would do as they've quite often done in the past and mess it all up with sub standard animation. I purchased "The Macra Terror" Animated DVD and felt short changed because the animators had not only tried to "Improve" everything by not sticking to the original 1960s production style, but had also completely omitted a really good comedy scene, which left me extremely disappointed! The audience for these older stories is obviously mainly made up by people like myself; older viewers who want the animation to remain faithful to the original production, no matter how outdated today's generation may think they are. Unfortunately the BBC, now being run by younger people, does not seem to care about this unless we keep reminding them! Another recent DVD that was messed up by the animator, who seemed to be proud of his unwanted tampering (he was giving his views about this on one of the DVD extras) was "Fury From The Deep". He totally messed up the ending by messing up what was a comedy scene of the doctor trying to fly a helicopter, into a scene where the doctor was trying to avoid giant pieces of seaweed! This was not in the original story and should never have been allowed. That is why I was waiting with bated breath to see what had been done to "The Evil Of The Daleks". I am delighted to say, that having watched all 7 episodes, I am extremely impressed with all of the animation. For this story they have also stuck to the original feel of the 1960s production. Occasionally they have inserted some extra footage, like the shots of the exterior of the mansion, but thankfully this adds to rather that detracts from the original. there are options to watch the Black and white animation with the original Episode 2 and to watch all 7 animated episodes in colour. There is also an option to watch the re-creation from telesnaps. The extras also include the making of the original programme on Disc 3. I am pleased to say that this is an excellent DVD set and, as far as I can see, a good and faithful reproduction of the original story. I hope they continue this high standard with the forthcoming animated DVDs!

The introduction of new companion Victoria Waterfield
Lovely to have this story in the collection, such a shame that so much of the 2nd Doctor's era was thrown away but at least we can thank those fans who sat in front of their tv's and recorded the audio. For me the animation works well and its great to see such a classic story be !lovingly brought to the screen, we now have Deborah Watlings s 1st and last appearance brought to life for those of us not being alive in the 60s to witness the stories live.Have not looked into the the special features yet or watched the story in colour, I prefer to be old school and watch how it would have been on original transmission in th 60s.Would be great if we could get one day an animation of Frazer Hines 1st story The Highlanders but we can only dream for now.I would recommend anyone who is a classic doctor who fan that this is a must have for your collection. For any eagle viewers Brigette Forsyth from The Likely Lads appears in this story and also with a very different accent from what we are used to is Windsor Davies.

Classic Adventure with Suitably Atmospheric Animation
This is easily the best of the recent wave of Doctor Who animations. It helps that (just like Power of the Daleks) it has a strong story and a strong central performance from Patrick Troughton. We should be grateful that fans took it upon themselves to record the soundtracks from these episodes when they were originally broadcast because that's why the BBC can now re-imagine 'lost' stories as animated adventures. The BBC still refer to missing Doctor Who stories from the 1960s as 'lost' when in fact is they were junked or wiped because they didn't see any future commercial potential in them. D'oh!Anyway - this is a great story; The Daleks are up to mischief in Victorian times and need The Doctor and his companion Jamie for nefarious reasons. This story also marks the introduction of Victoria as a fellow traveller and she plays a key part in the plot.I know some fans don't like the colour animations - 1960s Doctor Who was made in black and white so maybe the animations should only be made in black and white too? But with this release I'd beg to differ - the lighting and moody atmosphere of this release (in particular the scenes set on Skaro) make this a story that suits the colour treatment. This really is the best of the Doctor Who animations (so far).

This WILL play on an Xbox one in The U.S.
So Happy to have this story. Disc one gives you the option to watch it with the surviving episode instead of the animation. Disk 2 let's you watch the episodes in color, minus the surviving episode. The special features include the telesnap reconstructions which is how I first saw this story. Several special features on the 3rd disk, which were great! To those who say it's too long or there is alot of filler in the story, I'd say no more than the usual 60s-70s episodes of Doctor Who. This makes "Inferno" or " The War Games" seem very short. If you love classic WHO this is a must for you. I bought this in excitement and didn't even see that it was a European region disc. It wasn't available in The U.S. yet. Thankfully it worked in my XBOX One, which is from 2015 so it's a safe purchase if you have one. Probably the same for Sony PS4 but that's just a guess.
