I have always been dubious about walk books- preferring to plan my own route. however in a new area it is actually very handy to get an idea of good walks, as you never know if that footpath is really passable on a standard OS map. I was pleasantly surprised. Three grades of walks, short and easy, mid-distance, and longer walks over 4 hours. Useful if planning a weekend somewhere new with limited planning time.

I'm always interested in circular routes as straight line routes can be mundane. I have tried 5 walks so far and none have disappointed. The description and detail of the routes are excellent. More historical detail might add even more quality but there is enough to whet your appetite to do your own research. A great series of books, which I highly recommend.

We did several of these walks while on holiday in Yorkshire. We liked the choice of length, and the snippets of history included in the descriptions. The maps were helpful and general the descriptive guidance was good. Our one complaint is that some of the written guidance is open to different interpretations rather than always being completely clear. We had to backtrack on occasions when our interpretation was not that intended by the author. Also we were caught out by the need to navigate using types of trees towards the end of one walk - turn left at the second of two ash trees. We don't know our trees! Fortunately we found our way back to the start via a slightly longer route using the map.

It seems to have been written by someone who has walked the routes. Good directions and easy to follow. The three walks we have done so far were spectacular.

weii presented and easy to use. we have used this in conjunction with OS maps and it has allowed us to plan the walks in advance. It has been most helpful regarding length and difficulty of the routes as two of our party are not as fit as they used to be.
