He's obsessive. He's compulsive. He's Monk, "TV's most original sleuth ever" (Howard Rosenberg, Los Angeles Times). Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub cleans up crime and grime galore in the beloved series that critics hailed as "fresh, exciting and utterly original" (Chicago Tribune). Once upon a time Adrian Monk was a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, but he lost his nerve, his mind and then his badge. Now, this obsessive-compulsive detective is determined to get back on the force by solving one crime at a time in "the best detective show to come along in decades" (New York Post). Featuring hilarious guest stars, including Stanley Tucci, John Turturro and Sarah Silverman, and packed with every episode from all 8 seasons, this 32-disc set includes hours of behind-the-scenes bonus, making Monk: The Complete Series a compulsively essential addition to any DVD obsessive's collection. The Spanish language option is only on SSN 1; Subtitles are only available on SSN's 5 to 8. Review: A classic that remains watchable after all these years - My daughter and I were watching this and she kept looking at me. No comments - just quick looks. I think she caught the familiarity... If you like wacky comedies like Psych, you will like this show (the Psych pilot episode is on this DVD set). Monk is one of the most interesting and likable characters ever. The phrases he uses when speaking to people is hilarious. The other characters fit together so well. I was so sad when this show ended after eight seasons, but that is a pretty good run. I wish this were cleaned up a bit and on Blu-ray because the quality is not too good. I suspect this show may not have even been filmed in that high of a resolution or with digital audio at any point in the series. This was the case with the first few seasons of Doctor Who, however, they later released Blu-rays and they did something to make them look much better than the DVDs. Another thing that made me suspect the show was not filmed in too high of a resolution was that there was only a single stereo audio track. The alternative is that the studio didn't put much effort into the quality of the release on disc and not bother to later release it on Blu-ray. The show is still quite funny and enjoyable without HD or 5.1 digital audio. I did not hesitate to buy this on DVD because the price was low compared to some other series. Review: What happened when I got delivered. An earthquake happened that we don't know about - So this is about how I received my box set. This is not an issue with desertcart itself, but the delivery. I ordered this monk series on November 19. Suprizingly I got this today. Which is the 21st of nov. when I got it in the mail. The outside box was nothing out of the normal, but when I opened it it was bashed on the corner. All my cases were broken, half my discs were thrown out and scratched. ( sure it was already scratched before it we delivered ) the little attachments were broken so the other discs can move banging the inside. the small push buttons that hold the disks were also and almost all of them can't hold the disc in. This is the first time it's ever happened and this bad. Iv gotten some cracked before and discs loose but not like this. Deliveries bed to be careful cause that's not right. And what if it happens too your stuff. Think about that. The show is so awesome by the way. Everyone could enjoy this great show. I can relate to his obsession. Great character for this detective show.

A rare jewel in the world of television!
Had this show been on one of the broadcast networks, it would never have shined so bright... cancellation would have been inevitable. Monk is one of the few shows that succeeded in having both an ongoing back story along with a primary story for each episode. The writing was superb and the number of episodes per season just right (16 per year except for the 12 in season one). I remember when every series on TV used to crank out 20-26 episodes per year, meaning at least 10 of them were clunkers. There are very few clunkers in this series, just a lot of good old fashioned crime solving by one of TV's greatest detectives. Because of its home on cable television, Monk's writers had the luxury of telling their ENTIRE story all the way through. The build up to - and finally reaching - the amazing 2-part finale makes this one of the best television series of all time. I watched all the episodes up until the end, then viewed the 2-part finale with total amazement while laughing and crying. Oh, and Sharona shows up again in Season 8 for an episode too... Sharona, Monk, and Natalie together trying to solve a crime is something that might not have happened on any other show. Wonderful, wonderful... I am proud to add this series to my collection. It's good old fashioned entertainment for the whole, detective-loving family!

Wonderful
I previously had the first-four-seasons box-set, as it was my brothers. However, once he told me he was going to sell it; I looked up the last four seasons, so see price-wise, what I'd be out - if I gave my brother money for the first four, and then paid for the last four on Amazon. And, actually - it was cheaper/more cost-efficient to get the Complete Series. So much so, that my brother could've taken a hit in selling the first-four-box-set, if he wanted, and we still would've been okay, with what I spent on the Complete Series. I'm never truly sure if people are wanting these reviews for the 'shows', themselves, or if they're wanting the review of the product, the condition, etc. As far as the condition - I was very pleased. Just as well-made as the four-seasons, when we got that (when it first came out). It's a nice box/set, too. It's a great display piece, if nothing else. It takes up less room than the four-seasons, as well. As far as the show. Man, it's a great show. Honestly, I'm upset that it ended (due to Tony wanting to retire from the show). I would've been okay with another eight seasons, to be honest. Even if the episodes starting getting predictable (they had not gotten predictable, cliche, or 'usual'; at all during the eight seasons).. I still would've watched another eight seasons. I love the cast - excellent arrangement, even with the VERY FEW changes ('natural changes', and not just 'get rid of this character' changes); I loved every bit of them. Their characters were well-written, and EXCELLENTLY performed/executed - it all looked just so natural. And really, their characters added diversity to the actors' list of 'character types'. It's great. I love this show. And just love that I have all the seasons in one place (and cheaper than individual seasons).

A real gem of a series that I missed originally
I had never seen this series when it first came out. I saw a couple of reruns and loved it so I ordered the series. It is original and hilarious. Me. Monk is funny, brilliant and sad at different times. The murder mysteries are often as quirky as the main character. The cast is terrific. Tony Shaloud is great as Monk. Bitty Schram as Sharona is a lovable, loyal, sexy, and smart friend and assistant to Monk. I was sad to see her leave the series. The character was unique. She was replaced by Traylor Howard as Natalie, a widowed mom of a young pre teen girl. She is a loveable loyal assistant to Monk and like Sharona patiently keeps the distracted Monk on point. Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) does a great job as a homicide detective and friend to Monk who learns to understand Monks genius and idiosyncrasy. The scene with Captain Shottlemeyer "interviewing" the monkey "suspect" is one of the most hilarious comedy scenes I have seen on TV. Monk's OCD symptoms bring to mind a lot of little crazy habits almost everyone has that is probably part of the shows appeal. My wife and I both feel this is the best written, most original series we have seen. It has drama, comedy, love, friendship, mystery. The subtle humor in much of the show is just a bonus. Some of the murders are rather graphic and for this reason would say many if the episodes are not for kids.

Great show! Great value! Great quality!
I read some of the reviews before I ordered this series, and the biggest complaint is that there is no listings of the episodes. For those folks who want that information, it's available on IMDb, and the app can be downloaded to your phone. It has every episode for every season in order. In addition, it has a plot summary for each episode, as well as cast, guest stars, writers/directors, critic reviews, trivia, and so on. So, don't let that stop you from buying this great series. It's well packaged in nice plastic cases, in a nice boxed set. The dvd's are good quality, and have the "play all" feature, which I love! You really can't beat the value of this set, especially if your a Monk fan! If you've never seen Monk, you're in for a treat, and I would suggest you don't start watching until you can bindge watch, because you'll be hooked! I'm very happy with this purchase, and will enjoy watching many times!

Natalie or Sharona
I've watched the whole series of Monk - admittedly not in one sitting. It is a thoroughly delightful series by the end of which you may find yourself taking on some of the quirks affecting Monk himself. I have also, over the years, enjoyed series such as 'Murder She Wrote', and 'Matlock' to name a couple. The series of Monk runs somewhat along this line as light drama mixed with elements of humour. I don't need the shocking realities of sex, violence and depravity. It's not what I'm looking for and Monk filled the bill. I started watching Monk somewhere around season 6 or 7 and upon finding I liked it - I ordered the whole series from Amazon. With, I might add, no regrets. Everything came nicely packaged and worked perfectly. My one pet peeve - I can't stand Natalie. I didn't even realize there was anyone besides her as Monk's assistant. Obtuse, self-centered with the will of a doormat. Her character could have been filled by a 14 year old valley girl (which may be a discredit to valley girls). Once I started watching the beginning of the series I saw that Monk had another assistant Sharona. OMG, what a difference. I know that when she left midway through season 3 that it was with the mutual understanding of the producers and herself. But, questions have always been left as to the real reason. My thinking - she was becoming as popular as Monk himself. She had wit, humour, backbone and intelligence. So, to me, the best part of Monk was the first three and a half seasons. I'm not making judgement on the actresses playing the characters - just the characters themselves. I wonder what others think on this subject?

Remarkably Entertaining!
A Must buy if you are into comedy/mystery/crime and just a GOOD time! Very family friendly tv series that is and will always be remarkably entertaining! Fell in love with the show and have been addicted ever since! I find Monk adorable, funny and oddly infectious (in a good way). Monk (Shalhoub) is devoted to his job as a detective and to his wife Trudy. After Trudy is killed by a car bomb, Monk spirals into a deep depressive mood and is released from his duties as a detective. Now, as a consultant to the SFPD, Monk and his Nurse/Assistant Sharona/Natalie assist him with keeping his day to day life together and serve as his side kick when solving crimes. My favorite episodes are Monk and the very, very old man/ Monk goes home/Monk and the missing granny/Monk on the airplane/Monk on Jury duty/Monk and the Rapper and many more.

Really good show
My son and I really enjoyed this show. The character development with Monk is subtle when you watch it but when you look back it’s actually a lot. Great show.

Obsessive, Compulsive, Delightful
In terms of the content of the show. It's brilliant. For some reason it's getting really hard to get hold of Monk in the UK. Maybe it's popularity has suddenly spiked and new batches of dvds haven't been made for awhile. Please to have grabbed this for the price. It'll cost you £103.92 to stream all eight series via prime. It's NTSC but most dvd players nowadays are region free (just make sure you have one that plays all regions). Discs are playing well so far, working my way through them. Just finished streaming every episode from all eight season a month ago. Before netflix took it off their catalogue, Philistines! But still not bored of watching Monk. There was some slight pressure damage on the display box in the top corner. Likely caused during transit. However, it's a minor inconvenience, considering it shipped from the US. Perhaps thicker protective packing should be used next time.
