Excellent case replacement
Buy this case replacement - as other reviewers have stated it is of better quality than original. I want to share a tip to get you through the most challenging aspect of the project, which is removal of the transponder (circled). It is heavily glued into a small space and can be difficult to remove. I used a utility knife/ box cutter to cut away the short ends of the encasement, then used 'goof off' brand adhesive remover to dissolve the glue on the long sides...it worked great.

Absolutely happy with the upgrade
I bought two of these to replace the original set of keys for my '05 Porsche 911, and can't be any happier with the change. Both of my keys had cracked and one occasionally separated to spill out its guts in the parking lot. I was skeptical but the quality of the new units is superb and feels much better in my hand, with a studier and more attractive matte key fob. It took me about 30-40 minutes to change the internal parts out to the new unit, but I was quicker on the second one. By far the hardest part is removing the transponder in the original key, which as others noted is glued in. My method was to use a box cutter to cut out the narrow sides of the transponder, then score and carefully wedge away the plastic on the longer sides of the transponder. At first I was very carefully and light on my cutting, but realized quickly that I needed to be more forceful to cut away the surrounding plastic walls (where the transponder sits inside). Needle nose pliers help with the removing the battery contacts too. I was happy to find a new Porsche decal with adhesive backing in the unit as well to place on the key. You can either cut the key that comes with the new unit or simply transplant the original key to the new fob, which is what I did and was very easy (just keep an eye not to lose the spring that holds it in). I also kept and used the old silicone casing around the circuit board because it had a little lip that held the circuit board in, which the new silicone casing did not. Overall, it's remarkable value in terms of quality for less than $20 and less than an hour of your time per key.

Really not an exact fit for my 997.1
My original key was cracked and the 2032 battery kept falling out. I have the 2 button key fob. Yes, it did take about a half hour to successfully change the components. I was forced to reuse the old silicone rubber holder for the electronics as the PC board was smaller than the fit of the new holder. Fortunately, the old one was intact and not damaged. I am deducting half a star for that lack of fitment. The major problem was that the battery contact points, after removal from the old fob, were loose and would not keep in place. I was forced to bend the contacts sufficiently to create more friction in order to hold the contacts in the replacement. Deduct 1 star. My rating 3 1/2 stars overall. Possibly other cars would be a better fit, but if you are working with a 997 key, anticipate some extra time and frustration to keep the parts installed. I am used to doing delicate neurosurgery and watch repair, so I had sufficient tools and loupes for better magnification to handle the job. It was disappointing that the contacts had to be modified so much in order to ensure proper battery contact. The new fob works with the car without problem though.

Exactly what I needed
I have an 07 Porsche Cayman S 987.1 which comes with a light grey key and a heavy black key. I guess the previous owner used the black key the most because it was really worn and missing a button. Originally I wanted to transfer the internals to another key housing but with the transceiver thay would've been a pain. Instead I ordered this and swapped the worn/missing parts. The Porsche emblem was worn and this key fob comes with one inside. I opened my old key, drilled the middle of the back with a tiny drill bit to expose the emblem, then pushed it from inside out with a tiny screwdriver. Then I could glue the new one in. Key looks good as new.
