Fantastic book
Well written, brought back so many memories. Can remember were I was on that epic day, book helped me relive the moments. Even if you are not an Arsenal fan, it’s still a great read.

Amy Lawrence and her contributors add emotional depth to what was an unforgettable football season
Having already watched – several times – the '89' dvd (I'm an Arsenal fan, so that was always a must-see), I had doubts whether her book bearing the same name could avoid repeating much of the narrative from the players, manager and fans that made the film so engrossing and enjoyable, but, of course, I was going to buy it anyway! For sure, the text overlaps, but using the terrible events at Hillsborough as an emotional core, it plays out in myriad unexpected ways, not least in the heartrending list of the full names of the 96 and the ages at which those Liverpool fans were taken away.It also makes one remember – tearfully in many cases – others we have lost… Notably, David Rocastle. But also, perhaps more profoundly, a sense of innocence for an already bygone age of football. Not that it was all pleasant – far from it – as something that isn't included in the book was the reality that something similar to Hillsborough could have happened at Highbury, and in the very same 1988/89 season. It was against Liverpool, a League Cup replay in early November when an almighty crush took place on Gillespie Road as we tried to get through the North Bank entrance. Maybe we had all arrived a bit late, but it was scary and the packed bodies left you gasping for breath. Thankfully, there was enough space on the street for the crowd to filter and disperse, but looking back, it was an awful omen of what could, and would, happen elsewhere.Still, and with due deference to the deceased, it's an uplifting, joyful and wonderous recollection of some of the best moments one could ever have as a football fan, right from that first match at Plough Lane on to those unforgettable scenes in north London after Mickey did his stuff in the last minute. In many ways we've been blessed, not only in having those players represent the club during that amazing season, but having a fan such as Amy putting it down in words so that we can enjoy it all again for many years to come.

A treasure for Arsenal fans of all ages
Amy Lawrence expertly jumps back and forth though the season to culminate in one of the most dramatic title wins in history. A single chapter devoted to Hillsborough is particularly poignant and adds to the sheer emotional impact of the book. In 1989, I was only a toddler but this books gave me a greater appreciation for Arsenals past. Thank you Amy Lawrence.
