It is a spin-off of the Dr. Danny Tilson Medical Suspense. Book 4 "Secondary Impact." Dr. Ebel is a Master-Mind story teller who knows how to spin an intriguing and compelling Medical Suspense. Her professional and medical background makes her shine and lends much credibility to her great suspense novels. It is professionally well-written and edited and contains a cast of three dimensional and well defined characters. This book far exceeds the run of the mill productions. Dead Still is fast paced and very exciting and I could not put it down. It captured my attention from the first page until the last. I actually hated to see it end but am looking forward to book two in this outstanding new series. If you enjoy medical suspense, you will certainly like this outstanding and unique novel. It is a must read for medical fans and students. I especially enjoyed the actual medical facts that made it read like a true story.This revolves around Annabel Tilson who is the daughter of the famous, Dr. Danny Tilson. Annabel is just beginning her clinical rotation in surgery. She realizes it will be grueling and complex work but she was not prepared for the obsticles she faces. Dr. Mack is a third - year resident who in on Annable medical team and is sabbatoging her efforts. He does not like Annabel because he believes she was only admitted to the medical school because of nepotism and the fact her father is a well known and well respected neurosurgeon. Things soon become more complicated when a rash of patients die within twenty-four hours of their routine surgical procedures without any apparent complications.This discourages Annabel. She soon meets a resident in another specialty who shares her concers and statistics. Together they dig into the patients facts and look for a common demominator for the reasons tor these stranage deaths But time is running out and will Annable be able to pass her clinical and important exam without jeopardizing her medical future. I truly enjoyed this great novel and highly recommend it. Especially for medical students and medical fans. This book will keep you turning the pages and looking for more. It is a story you won't soon forget.

Medical thriller about third year med students during their surgical rotation. The story reviews their hectic schedule and growth as they learn and work together. Annabel is obviously the star character. She's excited about the rotation, as are her fellow students. One of the residents instantly dislikes her due to his views on women after a broken relationship and does his best to undermine her. She's close to her fellow students and her family so she pushes on. Post operative patients unexpectedly die and there is a question as to why. Annabel and an anaesthesia intern put their heads together to find the answer. The storyline and plot were good. The characters well developed and it felt like I was right there in the hospital with them. My issues were with Annabel's lust for their attending physician, and her sex hookups on the "findar" app. So much time was spent on her crushing and lusting after their attending that he was in nearly every thought she had. And the sex hookups weren't really important to the story. They weren't explicit, they just weren't relevant. I could be wrong but I would think she'd be too busy with the rotation work and studying to spend every waking second thinking about men and sex. It just got old after the first few chapters. Other than that the book was great. I had a bit of a hard time pronouncing a few of the medical terms, though I was familiar with several others. I would read more from this author.

This is a medical mystery filled with suspense. Who is killing patients so soon after their surgeries? It was fast paced and the medial terminology used in the text was explained well, I thought. As a person outside the medical field, I appreciated the explanations that the author provided. Annabel Tilson is a 3rd year medical student and is just beginning her rotation on the clinical side. (A point to remember is her dad is a famous neurosurgeon so....). Dr. Mack comes to mind when I wrote that sentence. I thought the characters were well defined, the plot outstanding and the descriptions of the hospital environment excellent. Have this author on follow now so I won't miss any more of her intriguing novels. Most highly recommended.

Awesome plot! I really enjoyed this read. I am an ICU RN that got half through my DNP anesthesia program before my spinal ligaments became unstable enough to affect my dexterity and I had no choice but to go on disability. I miss it terribly and reading about medicine in a novel is enjoyable for me, since there isn’t much I can do or concentrate on now because of severe chronic pain and radiculopathy. So I loved that it was so in-depth, as many medical thrillers don’t really get into detail about the medical part. 5 stars and I will be reading more. I do have a question that I couldn’t stop thinking about during the last chunk of the book though. Maybe I don’t understand correctly as I was no expert in anesthesia but learning to be; regarding the return of the NMB that resulted in paralysis coming back in recovery- wouldn’t anesthesia suspect the problem to lie with the reversal agent before the NMB itself? Since it was reversed but essentially later lost the reversal? I was confused as the why the anesthesia department only focused on the NMBs initially and why it took so long to investigate the new reversal agent?

It's a good plot line, but doesn't carry enough suspense. I knew early on what the ending problem was, and I am not a doctor. There was also a lot of meaningless prose which I felt detracted from the overall value of this book. Plus, like the four books in the previous Dr Danny Tilson series, there are just way too many grammatical and punctual errors to make this book more than the three stars I have rated it.

Annabel Tillson, a third-year medical student is starting her clinical rotation. Then, patients start dying within 24 hours of uncomplicated surgical procedures. Annabel suspects there is some commonality among the deceased, and, with the help of a resident from another specialty, undertakes her own investigation. Dead Still by Barbara Ebel is a stunning medical mystery that, unlike other mysteries, doesn’t have a human antagonist. Nonetheless, it has a human villain who complicates Annabel’s already complicated life. The author displays her extensive medical knowledge, mostly through dialogue, perhaps more than really necessary, but it is still a compelling read. After reading this book, the reader is likely to think twice before going to hospital, even for a simple procedure. The characters are all fully fleshed out, the setting is intense, and the plot is well crafted.

Dead Still by Barbara Ebel, M. D. is a suspenseful read. I stayed up all night, and I mean all night reading this book. I just couldn't stop. The clinical explanations are great, not that I understand all of them, but the author breaks them down to a point that laymen know what's going on. The human body is indeed marvelous and wonderful. I have a lot more respect now for medical doctors. I never thought about what it must be like to become a doctor. This is a wonderful story about overcoming. Our heroine has to overcome a lot of things in this episode of her life. I look forward to reading more about Annabel Tilson. The pace is fast and problems arise from every direction to keep you glued to the book needing to know what happens next. Excellent example of medical suspense.

Annabel Tilson is doing her first medical rotation in surgery as a medical student. I must say her experience in this rotation starts off with a bang. Her immediate supervisor, who is supposed to be training her, is a poor excuse for a doctor. He does everything he can to sabotage her and belittle her to the point that she is considering quitting medical school. She stays and continues on with her studies in spite of his tactics. There are a number of patient deaths that occur during her rotation that cannot be explained as to the cause of death. This makes Annabel determine to find out the cause of these deaths. She, and a anesthesiologist student, put heads together and reexamine all the cases where a death occurred. The students suspected that the problem was the anesthetic being used during the surgery. Annabel takes her concerns to her chief resident and from there an investigation of the drugs used gets underway. You will have to read the book to find out what happens next. I always love a good medical thriller and this one did not disappoint me. I hope to read the next book in the series. Dianna, Prescott, AZ

I just love Barbara Ebel's books - all of them! They satisfy both my wishes for medical and mystery content

An enjoyable page turner once it got going. As a non-medical person I found some of the text difficult to follow. Overall I learned a few things and would recommend this book.

A medical student gets bullied and eventually comes out on top. The concept is good but has been overdone in other books and TV dramas. Also the medical descriptions of the patients problems and the drugs used are far too complicated for non medical knowledgeable readers to appreciate.

Was actually quite disappointed in this book as I had seen all the glowing reviews on Amazon.com. I didn't find it nearly as interesting or well written as I'd hoped, and found myself in agreement with the lesser rated reviews. All in all, a series and author I wouldn't look out for in the future.
