Excellent book from the Harry Potter series. A+++
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is book 6 in the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. It is a thicker book than the previous books, and it is a lot heavier for sure. The quality of the book itself is excellent. Dust-jacket is very nice. Constructed same as the previous books. Story-wise, things just get more and more interesting that you can't put the book down and don't want to stop until you find out what is next after each page. This is my favorite book of the entire series. It is very dark in some places, but the flashbacks into the past in where we learn so much about Voldemort or Tom Riddle are very interesting and engaging. Danger is everywhere. Everything seems to be at risk, and you just don’t know what will happen next. Nothing seems to be safe anymore. There is also a little romance, but tension as well. It’s a pretty big book. A lot of pages to read. But, I was able to read it over a weekend or so with determination. There are so many plot lines in this book, and the pace does not let up from first page to the last page. There are new twists and turns. I cannot reveal without spoiling. This is definitely an excellent book.I recommend this book for sure. It is priced fairly I think on Amazon. If you have Amazon Prime, the 2-day Free shipping is nice.

The high point in a truly magnificent series
This is at least my fifth reading of this, easily my favorite book of the HP series. I get more out of each book upon every re-read, and this one especially. One of the great joys of the series, and especially of HBP, is the humor JKR manages to thread throughout the story, even as things are sad, or scary, or serious. The tiny references to Harry's burgeoning affection for Ginny, the way Fred and George manage to slip in one-liners even as chaos is erupting around them, it always feels like a gift from the author. This book, maybe more than any of the others, also really takes the time for character development. This is the book where Hermione becomes one of the great female characters in fiction, and where Harry stops being the victim of constant happy accidents and starts making his own choices. Plus it's just a really great mystery story! And ties in so importantly (obviously) with the overarching mythology.I will always remember receiving this book the day it was published (July 2007, right?), a day I had to go to a wedding and also shop for a big dinner party. I hid the book under my seat at the wedding and kept turning the pages behind my ankles, only looking up at the ceremony every page or so. Then I had the book balanced on my shopping cart, blindly tossing vegetables and cans in as fast as I could. When I got home, I finished the rest of the book by 2am, texting with my sister, saying, "I'm on page xxx." We finished within a few minutes of each other, exchanging comments on what sobbing messes we were. Later that week, I was walking to lunch and saw a girl sitting in the sun outside of the bank (where she presumably worked). She had the book in her lap and her head in her hands, obviously on one of the sad, stressful final chapters. I wanted to just go over and give her a hug.

Retribution for "Order"
Holy crap. After I read "Order of the Phoenix" I stopped the series for about 6 months. That book was dreadful and I wasn't even sure I wanted to keep reading. But I had to, I had come so far. With "Half-blood I read it in a week. I couldn't put it down! From the first freaking page this book was a million times better than the last one and at this point my favorite in the series.Even with having for knowledge because I'm super late to reading the series, I still enjoyed every twist and turn with this book and I'm assuming the movie will upset me like they all have but the book was still delicious. And I don't care what anyone says, I REFUSE to believe that Snape is redeemable. But I guess I'll just have to read "Deathly Hallows" to find out.

The Books ARE ALWAYS BETTER! You will read them for years.
The movies are wonderful BUT the Books Are ALWAYS Better! Why? You get the whole story as written by the original author!!! Nothing cut out or story lines Changed Entirely by editors or others who must squeeze and manipulate the ORIGINAL STORIES so as to fill a time slot, or showcase certain (undeserving) actors who wiggle their way into more “air time”...manipulating the original plot lines..It Shows to those of us who know. SO READ THE BOOKS, its like 50% more Harry Potter PLUS “THE REAL, UNDULTERATED, UNTOUCHED STORY. You should buy hard covered books because you WILL want to hand them down to your kids, grandkids, friends, and keep for yourself. These stories deserve re-reading! BUY THE BOOKS, you can get full sets! It is so very worth it and make great gifts for kids or fans of any age. GOOD LUCK, ENJOY!

The same happened with my mother so I started buying them for her on in large print so she could easily read them without strain
I got hooked on these books by accident around when the second movie came out. After that, I had to read them all and I was one of those people who would buy the book at the midnight release. The same happened with my mother so I started buying them for her on in large print so she could easily read them without straining her eyes. The story is simple without being too over-the-top fantasy (my opinion) like other series I could never really get into.

only one more to go:)
Everyone knows a bit about Harry Potter so I will focus here not on the contents of the book but on the quality of this book as a product. The book is a present for my child that loves Harry Potter and has seen all the films, but now when she is older (10 years old) she wants to read all the books too. I was between buying a full set with the box that is more expensive or buying separate books from this company - cheaper option especially that this book came in an offer.I have ordered book 1 and 2 to check if it is worth it.I am very happy to say that it is and now I have all 7 books for £30.The set looks great and I am very happy with my buyThe books are:- good size that can be held by a child or adult for a long time- weight - this version has a paper cover and light weight pages so the book is on the lighter side and good for kids- paper quality and the colour are good. The books that I bought had all their pages, the bonding is holding them in and does not feel like they will fall out any time soon- size and spaces between the words is very comfortable for my eyes and I can read it without glasses- illustration that is on the cover is very nice and definitely in the Harry Potter style- very good delivery time and I can have all 7 books for £30 with all the promotions I have got on them:)I hope you will like my review, if you found it useful please hit ‘Helpful’. It will make my day:)XX

A faster-paced and darker episode and with more Voldemort moving the series towards a conclusion
This Episode 6 of the Harry Potter series sees the story of Tom Riddle and his metamorphosis into the Dark Lord Voldemort told through Dumbledore and Harry exploring memories through the Pensieve. There is the familiar formula to the book of the beginning with the Dursley's, fun at The Burrow, confrontation with Draco Malfoy, and the usual magical lessons and interactions and romance with Harry's school peers. Here there is a new teacher, Horace Slughorn, who takes the roll of Potions Master, whilst Snape gets his long coveted post of Defence Against the Dark Arts. Snape's loyalties remain ever enigmatic and shifting, and the word 'Horcrux' enters the English language. All in all at about 543 pages this is a considerable improvement over the even lengthier Goblet of Fire and the glacial Order of the Phoenix. There is more interest and action, the story grows darker and sets up a final conclusion for Episode 7. I thought this was one of the best in the series, and a return to form.

If a book could have more than five stars out of five, this would be the one.
Oh yes, oh yes oh yes!!!I could hurl a hundred superlatives at this book, most of which you've probably heard before, but they’d all be deserved. So, Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, and what a year.I like to think of this one as a history book: not one of those big boring books that goes on and on about a long forgotten civilisation, a King or a Queen, but a book about Harry's past, his connection with Voldemort, and one that delves deep into the Dark Lord’s past, by way of memories in the pensieve in Dumbledore's office; memories that the headmaster has spent many years collecting.Harry has inherited his god-father's house and the vile elf, Kreacher, who he puts to good use following Draco Malfoy. Harry knows that Draco is up to something, he overheard him threatening the owner of Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn alley, he just doesn't know what. There are potions to master, (somewhat helped by an old potions book he finds in the spares cupboard, annotated and proclaiming to be the property of the half-blood prince; there's Snape to avoid, quidditch to play and an uncorrupted memory to extract from their new potions master, Professor Horace Slughorn; who taught Tom Riddle before he became Lord Voldemort. There are girls, there's snogging and there's Ginny Weasley, who Harry is starting to see in a different light. To top it all, there are Horcruxes to find, hidden objects that contain parts of Voldemort's soul, and this is where these books are so clever. It is here, in book six, that we discover that Tom Riddle's diary - which Harry destroyed in The Chamber of Secrets, (book two) - was in fact a Horcrux. Dumbledore has already destroyed another, Voldemort's grandfather's ring, and with Horace Slughorn relinquishing his untainted memory, they now know that they have four more to find, excluding the part of soul that resides in Voldemort himself. So, over five hundred pages in and the adventure begins, but Draco has succeeded in his task, Death Eaters have entered the school, the dark mark hangs heavy above the astronomy tower, Dumbledore is disarmed, Harry immobilised, Snape . . .I know that most of you already know the ending to this book, you've probably seen the film, but I put it to you, that unless you have read this book, you do not know the ending. The battle between the Death Eaters and The Order, Snape and Malfoy's escape, the burning of Hagrid's hut, and the most moving part of all, Dumbledore's phoenix and its lament, echoing hauntingly through the corridors and classrooms of Hogwarts. If a book could have more than five stars out of five, this would be the one. Simply put, this book if stunning.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, here I come.

Mmmmm sticky finger prints
Mucky fingerprints all over the cover like some scruffs been eating crisps and cleaning his hands on it. Also he's creased the front cover and as a brand new item from Amazon I didn't expect or want this. Price was cheap as though so I guess that's a silver lining on a crumpled greasy cloud.

Clever plot twists
Beautifully written. Amazing plot twists and turns. Page-turning element very strong, as usual. Difficult to follow for young children, but ok for children aged 10 plus. I enjoyed this book and I am 78. It's a high standard HP book which is on the way to explaining Snapes character, and seeming cruelty. It is clever.

The penultimate installment in the best saga ever written
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is as equally brilliant as its predecessor, though somewhat shorter, it still manages to fit an entire year at Hogwarts into one book.Times are becoming harder and the dark wrath of Lord Voldemort is closer than ever, he is gathering more and more followers and Harry's sixth year at Hogwarts is the darkest yet. There is a new teacher (Horace Slughorn) and many more revelations and plot twists to make this book very had to prise yourself away from.J K Rowling continues to weave the epic saga of Harry and bring to life a world that is not only perfectly described and imagined but also strangely believable. Her choice to darken the tone was wise, as Harry is growing up and the wizarding world is no longer the whimsical, magical place it was in Philosopher's Stone. The plot largely revolves around Harry and Dumbeldore trying to learn as much as they can about Voldemort so that they can get an advantage over him. This involves many chapters with just Harry and Dumbeldore talking about Voldemort - however this is no bad thing, instead Rowling makes her dialogue fast paced and engaging and very informative. The memories that are explored in this book reveal very important plot details and foreshadow things to come in the final book. Not only does Harry have to contend with Voldemort but romance that seems to be another major theme in this sixth book, Ron finds himself drawn to a girl and Hermione finds herself very jealous. Harry on the other hand finds out that he has been long harbouring feelings for someone very unexpected...Rowling writes each chapter so fast paced and exciting that they are over before you can say Expelliarmus. Highlights of book six include a journey to a cave where Voldemort hid something very important that could prove vital to defeating him. This scene is very well written creepy and tense. Another good chapter is the climax where a battle with the death eaters wages at Hogwarts. There is also a very unexpected and shocking death (i won't say who dies in case you haven't read it).Overall, Half Blood Prince is a worthy addition to the Potter saga and by the time i was nearing the end of this book it did feel like the calm before the storm, like this was the last year at Hogwarts before the final, epic battle that will decied the fate of the wizarding world and of Harry.

Harry stews a lot
Looks like this year Harry has mysteriously mastered stewing potions. This bothers Hermone who sets out to find an answer to his lucky find and has her own theory as to the true nature and name of "The Half-Blood Prince."Harry also has a few emotions stewing that need a little taming; he seems to be a tad upset over Jenny snogging another student. Things get a tad dicey as it looks like you do not know who to trust as Harry and Dumbledore have a mission.I think one of the best points in the book is where Dumbledore shows Harry that his fait in the conflict is not because it is written but what he chooses similar to the line from "Julius Creaser" by Shakespeare where Cassius says to Brutus "Men at some time are masters of their fates:The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves..."This story sometimes has the feel that it is going astray with descriptions; however all things tie together and it is necessary to distract you from the core story so you will forget some details only to be reminded of them later. This is the sixth book in the proposed series of seven and as with the previous books in the series you will want to purchase the book and the Jim Dale recording. Also if you are collecting do not forget to get an adult version. Before reading this book it is time to read "The Power of Myth" by Joseph Campbell. Or if you are more visual or auditory there is a film series and a CD version. After this you will swear that J.K. Rowling must have read this also before writing the book. You will see the mandatory stages a hero must go through including going through rights of passage such as caves before obtaining adulthood. If we just stopped with this book it would make a great TV pilot as Harry go on with an endless quest. However we are promised that all things should wrap-up and many do in this book by the end of the next book.

Bought as a gift. It's a well known book ...
Bought as a gift. It's a well known book that many others have expressed an opinion about. Only people living under very large, isolated rocks don't know about this. What am I to add to the discussion of it? Very little.I'm only reviewing it because Amazon requires a review to dismiss items from my items to review list and it's getting cluttered with things that don't really need to be reviewed but there is no other way to dismiss them. I did ask if they could add a feature to remove irrelevant items but they don't seem to want to go down that route. I've just spent hours reviewing items. :(

Mind blowing - what the movies don't tell you.
Amazing book. I think this one is my fave out of the whole Harry Potter series. The movie misses put a lot of crucial pieces of information regarding Voldemort's past. The book really does open your eyes into way Tom riddle became Voldemort and the book even gives some insight on his parents life. This book ties everything together in a way that makes you feel mind blown... You will want to tell all your friends about what really happens. All the Harry Potter movies are nothing in comparison to the books.

It’s great as we knew it would be. I wouldn’t let a younger child read solo as getting darker but shared with my book worm and we loved this.
