A good quality sleeping bag for lightweight backcountry winter camping.
I am pleased the Marmot Lithium bag, although I wish that I had waited a couple of months before buying it so that I could have purchased it for 30% off during Black Friday sales. It is an expensive sleeping bag but it is a quality item.Pro:- The regular size bag fits my frame well (5'10", 195 lbs, 46" chest with wide shoulders). Not so large that I am heating unnecessary space, yet not so tight that I am constricted. I have a small amount of room at my feet for a propane fuel bottle and a couple of pieces of electronic gear. I can draw a knee up or cross my legs without any trouble. When I lay on my back with my arms by my side- while wearing a base layer- the sleeping bag fabric and the down fill inside, is NOT drawn tight. I still have a bit of extra room around my torso. This eliminates any heat loss through tight and constricted baffles.- The extra shoulder zipper makes this bag useable during shoulder seasons and makes it easier to read a book in the tent during a long winter night. It is one of the reasons that I purchased this bag.- The loft is excellent throughout the length of the bag. The extra thickness of down in the footbox and the hood is great. The down was uniformly installed inside the baffles.- The hood has a nice fit and is warm.- The zippers do not snag and the pull cords are easy to operate, even in the dark. The full length zipper goes down almost the entire length of the bag, making entry and exiting easy. The zippers are good quality and the zipper pulls are large, easy to locate and to use. There is NO snagging on either zipper but it does take a little effort to move the zipper up around the shoulders. I'm ok with that.- The fabric is soft, interior and exterior, and of high quality. The interior fabric does NOT grab base layer wool or synthetic clothing so it is easy to move inside the bag.- Since the bag is a near perfect fit, and I am a side sleeper, it is necessary for the Lithium to move with me thru the night- especially on very cold nights when my face needs to remain in the small face opening to vent properly. The bag does this well. The insulation is uniform throughout all of the baffles, front and back, so if the side or back of the bag is exposed, there is no additional heat loss.- The bag compresses well and can be used in the bottom compartment of many interior frame backpacks.- This is a nice warm sleeping bag with an excellent warmth to weight ratio. If it is used below the comfort level rating of 10 F (0 F is the endurance rating) there is still plenty of room inside the bag to wear a mid layer and/or small puffy on the torso and down pants on the legs. I think that by adding extra clothing layers the comfort level could be reduced well down below 0F.- On the other side of the equation, the full length zipper, and added shoulder zipper, make this bag comfortable to use in temperatures up to 35F (maybe higher still, I have yet to try)- The treated down and DWR treated high quality exterior fabric were a selling point for me.Con:- The lack of an interior chest baffle saves on weight. The literature that I read about the Lithium stated that the loft was thicker around the chest to compensate for the lack of a chest baffle. If that is true, the chest loft does not seem sufficiently thick enough to truly compensate for the lack of a designated baffle. I can feel warm air moving up past my chest when I move. This can be compensated for by drawing the face closure tight or by wearing an added mid-layer on the top if the bag isn't zipped up entirely. In truth I absolutely hate most standard chest baffles so the lack of a baffle was actually a selling point for me. As a plus, the lack of a chest baffle helps to make this bag usable in temperatures above freezing.- The down is somewhat stinky, even after hanging it open for more than a month.- The included stuff bag from Marmot is ridiculously small, especially for a sleeping bag with such high loft. I use a size large compression stuff sack for this sleeping bag. Even so, the initial effort to get it inside the stuff sack before I compress it is difficult. Plan on ditching the Marmot stuff sack for one that can actually be used in the field.- The shoulder zipper can bleed in cold air if the interior zipper flap is not pressed flat against the zipper.- Despite the slight chevron shape of the down baffles the down does move inside the baffles while stuffing it in the stuff sack. The chevron shape helps somewhat to keep the down in place but it doesn't entirely prevent any problems. It is a good idea to inspect the fill after removing the sleeping bag from the stuff sack, after it has expanded for awhile, and to manual shift the down into any semi-bare locations. This is not an uncommon problem with down bags, especially those with high loft, and is not particular to the Marmot Lithium.- The interior pocket, while thoughtfully designed, does not work well for anything other than small light items like ear plugs or a hanky. Zipping a phone up in it, a set of batteries, or a headlamp allows heavier items to bang against the chest all night. It is uncomfortable and it changes the shape of the baffle which causes heat loss.

Finally warm while camping
Cold-sleeping tall female, here. For this first time camping at freezing temps I am warm with this bag! It does take some work to compress it down since it's so fluffy, but a Sea to Summit 20L eVent bag (large size) does the trick for me. You could use a smaller compression bag, but this size seems easier to use since you don't have to stuff it as small in the first step of stuffing it into the sack.
