Great lock, but 40mm combo dials are small
Great lock for our backyard gate, waterproof and handles all 4 seasons.Only frustrating part is the combination dials are quite small on this 40mm model and I occasionally spin more than one at a time unintentionally.I have a larger, 50mm by Squire that has bigger dials, which I'd recommend over this one.

Squire is great, but this lock is lacking
The lock can be difficult to keep closed/open. It sometimes just decides not to latch, and I have to try several times before it will latch. It's easy to change the code, and it's a fairly solid feeling little lock, but the usability problem makes it feel cheap, even though its a surprisingly expensive little lock.

These are the real deal!
These locks are the real deal. I use locks on my box trucks for my plumbing company and we constantly have issues with locks getting stuck in the winter, wheels not turning, etc. So far, these things have been through snow storms, freezing temperatures, salt, rain and they've been working flawlessly. I did have one lock that did not work correctly and the company immediately sent out another one almost the same day. You can feel the heft in these bad boys, the wheels move effortlessly and the push button on the bottom to open the lock is a very nice feature. They are also extremely simple to change codes on. I was a bit hesitant with the cost but these locks are definitely worth the investment. If your looking for good all weather heavy duty locks, these are the ones you want.

but have been totally disappointed. The lock arrives at code 00000
Save your money! Bought this lock based upon other reviews, but have been totally disappointed. The lock arrives at code 00000, and changing it to a new code is easy enough... but the lock didn't then open, despite numerous re-rolls and attempts. Contacted Squire; they said, "What we're finding is that some dials are being sent slightly off centre." In other words, Squire ALREADY KNOWS that not every lock purchased will work as advertised!! They, not so helpfully, provided a method to figure out which dial was "slightly off centre," and this, of course, did not work either. Being trained as an engineer, I kept trying, but had to give up after two hours. Squire offered to replace the lock, but when asked if they would either refund my money or pay postage to return the lock to the UK, Squire had no further communication with me. So much for standing behind your product. So much for customer service. So... if you want a great looking paperweight, by all means, buy this lock!

3" not 6.5"
This product is half the size it was advertised. 1.2 x 3.5 x 6.5 inches was the description. This is 3" tall a tiny little lock. I paid more for this than the Master or others listed because it looked quality and was larger. This would be good for jewelry box but not anything you need to secure outside. Definitely disappointed in this purchase.

Good lock for gates, utility shed and etc. Changeable code.
Little hard to read the tiny printed instructions but a well made lock. Allows you to change the code with a tiny key that they provide. Keep the instructions. It is just a hint! You may forget how to reset it because it is just enough of a difference that figuring how to change the code is not just the 'common way'. Easy but different that someone else can't mess with your lock. I lock things up for a reason. I don't want other people able to change it!

Recommendable lock
I bought this lock because I did not want to have to worry about a key and I needed a long neck and this has worked as promised. I have had two of these on my gates for around a year with no malfunctions. I am in So. Cal. and have had no problems with it getting stuck. I did not give it 5 stars because I cannot mix up the combination (to disguise it) while the lock is in the open position.

great combination lock
This is a great lock and just what I needed. Forget key locks! I have spend so much money on key locks only to eventually lose the key and having to buy another lock. Combination locks are so much easier and this one seems very sturdy and easy to use. The only thing I don't like is that the little combination wheels are a little greasy / oily.

Poor Quality
I've been buying this type of Squire padlock for years - I've got one on my garden gate that's several years old and it still works fine. But the build quality of the latest ones is very poor, drastically inferior to their earlier ones. I've had to send two back recently because the wheels wouldn't turn and line-up properly, and the mechanism felt stiff and clunky, despite copious oiling. I guess Squire are using inferior parts to save money......

Very easy to operate
I got this to replace a janky Master brand combination lock that was really poor. This Squire one was a bit more expensive but it is so much more reliable and well engineered from an operation point of view that it's certainly worthwhilte. The dials are easier to rotate, the critical alignment is very obvious to anyone using it (the Master one was oddly offset), the weatherproofing actually makes it more pleasant to handle too as it doesn't have that 'sting' that bare metal has on frosty mornings. Easy to read, easy to set, easy to operate and feels well built. A big improvement.

Itty bitty combi lock, It Does The Job
Smaller than I was expecting, which is silly really because it says 40mm right there in the title. It's a squire so the quality is decent, I'm sure it's easy to bypass but it does have a solid "feel" or appearence which I suppose is half the battle a lot of the time. Wheels feel clicky and responsive, but being quite small and with the reset process being quite fiddly, it's easy to get "stuck" in place or jam up the combination at times. The lock/release button can also be fiddly. But for a small task like a loose change box or a toolbox - sure, go for it. Just don't use it to lock up your shed or anything important!

Not so good
Sadly this is a difficult lock to use. The dials are small and inset so they won't turn easily. I chucked the lock away as never get it to open. Expensive mistake
