Magnets in Motion Accessory Set, Multi Color (20 Pieces)

I bought this for my one year old for the fridge. Not what I thought they would be but they stilll work!

Magformers are my favorite toy when playing with my kids. I love the gears, but this set is not for everyone. If you have a lot of Magformers already, you may be able to get away with just the accessory set. Unfortunately, unless you have a lot of rectangles you aren't going to be able to build anything, and few sets besides the XL Cruisers (which won't work with the gears) come with many rectangles. My kids enjoy just lining the gears up in squares attached flat on the floor, but the squares aren't sturdy enough on their own to be able to build up and use these. We have a set of the super squares, so we attach the little squares with the gears on top of them to be able to build up, but even then you aren't going to be able to go around corners (having the crank on the side drive the gears around on top) because the extra layers will put the gears too far away from one another. If you have hexagons, the large gears will be able to go around the hexagon corners. To be able to build around square corners, and have the structure not fall apart as soon as you try to turn the crank, you need the structural stability of rectangles. For that reason, I'd recommend going with one of the other gear sets that includes rectangles. The other option (which we'll probably go with) is to order just a set of rectangles directly from Magformers. On their Facebook page they have a link for a secondary site they don't advertise anywhere else that sells individual shapes.

I bought these for a magnetic board I made for my toddler but they don't stick well at all. The only ones that work ok are the gears so I gave 2 stars for those.

Unfortunately I could get this better in Shein or Temu apps. magnetic power is week and it's overpriced

It's not clear how any of these pieces are supposed to work together. There are no diagrams or pictures of constructions included. It was eye-opening to see the pieces used in online constructions. We had tons of fun after that. That said, six of the clear plastic pieces (with no magnets or connecting attachments) have no function at all except to decorate the inside of squares you've bought with another kit. (Fine, but we don't want to decorate, we want to engineer.) The actual cogs don't really work together -- not without pulling the magnetic structure apart! You have to use large, double-block set pieces that are not included in this set. If you already have them, all of the included cogs come to life.
