Sholley4 Wheel Push Shopping Trolley, Strong, Well Balanced, Aids Walking, Regular 5'4" and Over (Bloomsbury)

Having perused Amazon to find what I believed to be the best trolley available and which was described on Amazon as "stable and safe to lean on" and a "useful and discreet aid for mobility for people needing some support when walking" it sounded ideal for my 92 year-old mother-in-law despite the high price tag of over €260. I purchased same on Amazon on 28th of August 2023 from Sholley Trolley. In early January 2024, problems began with the handle of the trolley where it was dipping at one side and eventually the handle broke in early February. We were shocked that this top-of-the-range very expensive trolley would have a broken handle within four months of use. I then contacted Sholley Trolley by email and reported the problem with the trolley. They apologised and said they would send a handle to us with instructions on how to replace same and they would also talk us through replacement of the handle over the phone when it arrived. Said handle did not arrive and now, over three months later, has still not arrived. They had sent it by post, without tracking. I should have guessed at that stage they haven’t much interest in after-sales service when they didn’t send it by courier or at the very least tracked post.I contacted Sholley Trolley again by email on 4th of March to inform them that the handle had never arrived and, further, that I didn’t want a replacement handle - I wanted a full replacement, preferably a different model as this one transpired to be disastrous, as my mother-in-law had fallen with the trolley that week when the handle collapsed and that she also was having trouble with the wheels locking and could not use the trolley as it was dangerous. They would not replace same and offered to resend the handle, this time by tracked post. I declined as I felt it was not fit for purpose with two defects arising within the warranty period and the very serious implications of an elderly lady using a product that could not be relied on from a safety perspective – despite the description on Amazon as being “a discreet aid for mobility”. They then offered for us to send it back for repair to Sholley Trolley but the collection alone would be £55. We both felt enough money had been spent on a trolley that is a major disappointment. She had a very lucky escape that she wasn’t badly hurt. The €260 trolley is now lying unused in the garage after her fall.Her previous trolley which she had purchased from a large UK and Irish supplier lasted many years but had become a bit shabby which is why she wanted a replacement but in fact she is now back to using her old trolley. I felt this Sholley Trolley would last many years without trouble. It has been anything but the case. We are so disappointed in it. We feel that a replacement should have been forthcoming as the product is not, in our opinion, fit for purpose and defects arose after only a few months of gentle use. We expected so much more from a product that is more than three times the price of its rivals. Not a good service, we could not recommend it.
