Petsafe Deluxe Big Dog Bark Control Collar - Bark Collar Your home can now be bark free. The unit uses vibration and sound to ensure only your dog's barking is detected. As he barks, he receives a safe but annoying static" correction. The bark collar begins with low corrections but if excessive barking continues the correction intensity will increase. When used correctly the bark collar reduces (and in most cases eliminates) the number of nuisance barks. Your dog will quickly learn the association and stop the unwanted behavior. The patented Perfect Bark technology ensures your dog's bark is the only sound that will cause the correction. Two color LED for good/low battery indicators let you know when the battery needs to be changed. Includes Petsafe RFA-188 battery module. The system has ten levels of light-touch correction. It begins with low-level corrections however if excessive barking continues the correction intensity will increase with each successive bark until the barking stops. Once the dog has learned to reduce the barking the initial warning corrections are reduced. As a built-in safety feature if your dog barks 15 times or more within a 1 minute 20 second period the Bark Control Collar will automatically shut off for 3 minutes."

6 Dogs, one emotionally labile neighbor, varied results on this bark collar
As the title states I have 6 dogs at home, and a major league a hole for a neighbor, my town starts sending letters to me when the police start getting calls from this neighbor. I have had to call the police when this neighbor started throwing rocks at my dogs, I found this out once when I was petting one of my dogs outside and she barked and the neighbor chucked a rock at me. Guess what is the number one call to police in the USA is? Yup, you guessed it, barking dogs. I have 5 of these bark collars and one large bark collar (rechargeable petsafe model). As other reviews state, the static correction is hit and miss, it seems to depend on the temperament and tolerance of the dog as well. My Shih Tsu won't bark at all when she has this on, so I have the collar in the "off" position. Others, like Pomeranian and Cairan Terrier seemed to be un-phased by the collar until I shaved the fur down at the base of their necks for better contact. My Poodle will shake her head until the collar is on the side, so I have found placing a scarf-like bandanna prevents her shenanigans from working. My Chihuahua get's it, when the collar is on he goes from yappy little dog to silent mouse. My Scottish Terrier takes a little warm up - ramping up on the automatic static correction until she gets the point.A few things that may help you:As stated above, you may need to shave your dog's neck to get more optimal contact, especially for dogs with thick coats or double layered fur.12 hours is the max these collars should be on - pin site necrosis (the pins burring into the skin) can occur and the collar must be left off until the skin is completely healed. Not turning the battery to the "off" position cuts down on life span of the batteryUsing a match to cauterize the cut end of the collar to prevent fraying once you have sized the collar to your dogRemoving bulky and over-laping collars helps with the collar sensing and delivering. (Make sure the dog has a plain collar with id on it though in case it gets lost)The "side buckle" on the collar (as referred to in the manual that comes with the collar) breaks with time, making the collar slip/loosen and unable to hold the correct size (has happened to two of the collars)Replacement collars are hard to find, and originally these collars had colored rubber skins that you could buy (helps in identifying one from the other.Replacement batteries RFA-188 are ridiculously expensive (you can look on you tube for videos on how to remove the battery from the plastic case and use replacement batteries for a fraction of the cost)Don't set it and go - stay with your dog, some get the "point" immediately, others will ramp up the barking and the collar follows suit. Although the collar has a safety shut off, it's upsetting to watch and can be prevented by just spending sometime with the dog to make sure they don't suffer.I have had two DOA's right of the box - one never turned on, and the other, even though it's light changed failed to either sense and/or deliver a correction (keep the receipt and watch the dog to see if they respond)There's no true way to test it to make sure it works - except as stated in the aforementioned statement. The collar came off - this has happened twice over the past 8 years, I presume the dogs were playing and one happened to bite the collar right where it snaps together and the collar came off, what did the dogs do to them? Chewed them up of course!I replace the battery in each collar monthly when I use them, typically in the spring and in the fall - the neighbor leaves his windows open; Summer and winter the windows are closed and he's inside his home, the barking goes unnoticed by him. These collars are great at the dog park for two of my dogs that love to bark, everyone thinks how well behaved/quiet they are. These collars are pretty decent, minus the pro's and con's I've listed they beat the alternative - the neighbor calling the cops, or worse him trying to hurt my dogs.Hope this review was helpful...

Excellent little collar for little dogs!
I just reviewed the standard Pet Safe Bark Collar, so I thought I would come over here and share my experiences with the Deluxe Little Dog Collar. In a nutshell, this collar has been GREAT. We have two jack russells, one that is adopted and has terrible separation anxiety. When we had to move from our house to a rented apartment, we had to find a way to deal with his mournful howls, yips, and barks that he did ALL DAY LONG while we were away at work. Poor guy. Well, we broke down and bought this collar because we didn't think that a spray collar would be enough to deter him (he IS a stubborn jack russell, after all!).This was literally the best idea, ever.We did buy it at Pet Smart for about $100 pre-tax, but it has been worth every penny. He's a quick learner, and within a week he had stopped howling. We do still keep it on him all day when we're gone, turned on, but we know from recordings that he isn't making much noise while we're gone.***What I love about this collar:- It has a low profile. The unit is small, unobtrusive on my (then) 11 lb dog (now 14 lbs). He can play, run, chew, etc. without being hampered by this collar. It's lightweight enough that it doesn't bother either of my dogs to wear it.- Battery life has been great. In the 2+ years we've owned it, we've replaced the battery once (about 6 months ago). I know some people need to replace it more often, depending on usage. But, our dog wears it 5 days a week, about 9 hours a day. As I said above, he learned to control his noise level quickly, so he doesn't activate it often. But, it's there if he needs it and the battery does last.- It doesn't randomly go off. It really doesn't. I was terrified that if my other dog barked it would punish the dog wearing the collar. Or what if I whispered in his ear? Nope, not a problem. In fact, he's learned what he can "get away with" wearing the collar. For example, low whines are fine. So, he'll make little, low cries sometimes while we're gone. Play noises are fine. Chewing noises are fine. And, it gives the warning vibration BEFORE the shock, so he's quickly learned to recognize when his noises are getting too loud. It's made it easier to control his barking when the collar is off, too. I just say "shh" when the vibration goes off. When his collar is off, I can now say "shh" if he gets too loud and he takes it down a couple of notches. It helps to control the noise of rowdy play so that my neighbors don't complain about that, either.- It works even on stubborn dogs. My dogs are terribly smart. I adore that about them, but it makes training difficult. I love a challenge. Unfortunately, my neighbors do NOT appreciate dog noises and my dogs, well, make lots of dog noises. Growing up in a single-family home, they were always allowed to get away with it. Apartment living doesn't work like that. This collar has literally been a great tool. We tried it on ourselves first, and it smarts about like a rubber band snap does. It's more of a surprise than horrible pain. But, it does the trick. Our dog has responded very well and very quickly, even though his other training has never gone so smoothly!- The battery was very simple to replace.***What I'm not so crazy about:- I have to tighten the collar every day when I put it on him. At the end of the day, it may be loose, especially if he rough-housed while we were gone. But, it still works, even if it's loose so this is just a small annoyance. It does make transferring it from one dog to the other easy, I guess.- You need a coin to turn it on and off. I guess it's a nice feature from the perspective that your dog can't accidentally turn it off if it's a push button, but it was a nuisance at first. Now, I just keep a penny right by where the collar lives when it comes off the dog. As long as the penny is handy, it's easier to live with.Despite these small annoyances, this collar still deserves 5 stars in my book. I recently "cheaped" out and bought the standard size dog collar from Pet Safe through Amazon for my other dog who has randomly started barking during the day - what a mistake! Yes, it's less than half the price of this collar, but the unit is almost 2x larger. My other jack russell, even though he's almost 17 lbs, couldn't tolerate it. It was much too big. But, he wears this collar just fine. So, I'm returning the other collar and I just ordered a second Deluxe Little Dog Collar today! It may cost more, but for little dogs I really think it's worth it. I wish it cost less, but I'm willing to pay the price for a good product that my dogs tolerate and that does exactly what it is advertised to do. My budget these days is too tight to throw money around! :D

Have two of these for our papillons (cute but horrible yappers). These collars are a lifesaver. You have to put them on quite snug and even so they don't always work but fortunately after getting shocked once or twice the dogs just know not to bark while wearing these anyways, but for the most part they work well. Once in a while our very hyper female forgets she is wearing this collar and freaks out in a barking frenzy and will get a shock which reminds her not to bark again for a few days. I love my dogs but was getting extremely frustrated at the useless barking (at the shower, at cars that drive by, at ANYTHING) these collars help me keep my sanity and let me enjoy my pets rather than being frustrated with them.

Haven't told my min pin to shut up since I bought this collar.
Worked wonders on my min pin. I take my dog to work and his barking was becoming an issue. Within 2 days this collar has limited his barking to one or two barks, rather than the non-stop 10 minute bark marathons that were getting on everyone's nerves. It has had a positive effect on his attitude as well - he is much more relaxed and social, rather than trying to be the office body guard. The collar is easy to use, and my dog has learned quickly what to expect when I put it on him. I was worried it would be too big (my dog is approx. 10lbs) but it fits great. I would recommend this to anyone with a non-aggressive but noisy small dog.

Works great. Our 6 year old poodle cross needs to have it on every day, even after months of use, as it didn't wean her from barking forever, but with the collar on she's mostly quiet. She'll still power through for the mailman, but otherwise good. Since we need to use it every day, batteries are a factor. We followed YouTube advice and trimmed the proprietary battery holder so we can use the camera batteries available for between $4 and $10 each time (about every 6 weeks).. One loss of a star for trying to make it appear you could only buy batteries from PetSafe at disturbingly high prices.

I felt terribly about it
Does the trick but I definitely should have read the item properly. I thought it was a vibration collar and it isn't. It shocked our dog and although it took only one time to let her know not to bark, I felt terribly about it. Now we just use it as a tool so when she starts to bark (like someone coming to the door), we pull the collar out and show her. She stops immediately. But our dog is really well behaved and our ONLY issue was with the barking. Fixed!!

Wow! We have a very smart dog with a very loud incessant bark and already had one complaint that resulted in a visit from the city bylaw person. He barked at wind, he barked at leaves, he barked at cars, he barked at birds flying by, he barked just because. So, after trying other options that did not work, I reluctantly bought a collar. The results were immediate. He started his usual barking and immediately stopped after a surprised yip. He tried again with the same results. That was two weeks ago. From that point on, he gives the very occasional quiet woof to people and dogs that walk by our chain link fence. He mostly just goes up to them and follows them along the fence with NO barks.I have seen stray dogs, people with small yappy dogs, and children go by the chain link fence and still, NO barking! He is still able to give one or two warning barks when the danger seems real to him but that is it. I am very pleased. He knew from the very first day that the collar was associated with not barking. I hesitated getting the collar as I was worried about how he would adjust to it and that it might not work. However he does not seem to mind the collar at all and it seems to have no ill affect on him. In fact, he seems to be socializing more with the dogs and people that go by. Now I am working with him behaviorally as well to teach him no bark signals. Thank you so much as I was getting sick with worry as to how we were going to handle this problem.
