Q: If all 12 strands are hung for a backdrop, about how wide would it be?

Depends if you want them clustered or not. If not it can be 72 inches wide. If you cluster them maybe 2 feet. They were easy to work with.

Q: How heat resistant are these? Would they be able to “tangle” in with Christmas lights?

I think they would...I used fairy lights with them but they were behind them, not tangled with, they were beautiful.

Q: How do i get the fishy smell out?

I honestly just ignored it. Took it out of the package and left it all out. The smell went away by itself by the time I needed to hang it for the baby shower.

Q: safe for fish and reptiles if washed?

Yes. Wash them real good though.
