Nails 1st grade
This book did a great job with providing extra work throughout the 1st grade. Would be great for preparing a future 1st grader if they are ready for the challenge.

Good-quality math workbook, excellent for my kindergartener
Updating my review of this book after using it with my kindergarten-age daughter for several months. Overall, I really like this text. It has very robust pages, so that when my daughter has to erase and correct a mistake the pages don't rip. The pictures and colors are attractive and appealing to a kindergartener. The book does an excellent job on addition and subtraction within 10, and within 20. It follows the organization of a typical first-grade curriculum closely. And I love that IXL has produced a real book, since I'm not in favor of my child having a lot of screen time. The double-digit addition and subtraction section of the book is pretty weak. That surprises me, since place value and double-digit addition is one of the most important skills children learn in the first grade. This section of the book occupies ~35 pages out of 210, so just over 1/7th of the book. While it does present a few double digit subtraction problems in horizontal form, it includes no double-digit subtraction problems in column form. And it doesn't present missing addends problems involving adding 10s and 1s. I don't love the 100s table, but I understand that's a pretty common technique that teachers use so I'll reserve my criticism there--I simply had my daughter use the base 10 cubes instead for those 4 pages. Overall, the lack of double-digit problems is not a reason not to buy the book, and it's easy to supplement with worksheets from k5learning or just write your own additional problems. And of course small children need a ton of practice, so we play card and board games that reinforce the concepts we've worked on in the book. You can't rely entirely on one book anyway, and this book does a good job presenting *most* first grade math topics. We definitely plan to buy the IXL Ultimate 2nd Grade Math Workbook when she finishes this one in a couple months.
