Installed 5 in a 5.1 setup and am very pleased
As another person put it, I'm not at all a Polk devotee, but I've installed several of Polk's other less costly in-ceiling speakers and was impressed with them... so the fact that these are even better and hold up to the reviews made me very happy. I'm extremely pleased with them at all levels: sound and seeming build quality, mounting ease and aesthetics are all a notch above the lower series speakers. Most importantly, their sound quality is considerably above what I would consider average for an in-ceiling speaker--especially in the mid-bass, which is a large part of why I purchased them for my 5.1 system (hoping they would hold up to the reviews). Installation was simple (in a new home that was prewired) and they're by far the most "invisible" of any ceiling speaker I've seen; the grill is extremely low profile (probably due do the magnetic design) and as a result, it hides the larger mounting ring that is considerably more visible even in Polk's own lower series speakers. I was especially pleased to realize these had upgraded wiring posts, making it easier for them to accept and solidly clampt the larger guage wire that we had our home wired with. I was a bit nervous in using one for my center channel, but I'm glad I did--again, it blends in perfectly and my concern over the "imaging" being wrong as a result of the height and down firing ended up being a non-issue. Granted, my TV is mounted arguably a bit too high above my fireplace mantel, so this may help the situation, but while I could easily mount a traditional in-wall center directly below the TV, I'm definitely not going to waste the effort or money to do so since I'm not convinced it would do any better. While these caused me to go a bit over my original budget (my wife enjoyed heckling me about this), they've panned out to be well worh it and I would recommend them to anyone that wants an in-ceiling system that's considerably above average on all points.

A Revelation of how good celling speakers can sound!
Excellent ceiling speakers if you are discerning about sound quality. I am not a Polk devotee at all. My regular speakers are, shall we say, more esoteric. But these have raised my estimation of Polk! Often in ceiling speakers sound awful, tinny, or boomy, etc. But these have a very sweet and smooth midrange (which is key); likely due to the fact that unlike almost all other in-ceiling speakers in this price range, it has 3 drivers, one for mid-range so it does not have to compromise mid-range for bass response. And it has good tight bass (not HUGE base, but proper bass); this is likely due to the design of the woofer and the housing, which is also pretty unique and allows it to be larger and resonate more than typical 6.5" sized ceiling speakers. I used two of these in 15x20 ft space that is open all three sides and they produce plenty of sound. Easily driven by a 20 watt amp. No enclosure in the ceiling required. Sound great just in the ceiling cavity. One note, these are quite deep and heavy relative compared to other ceiling speakers of this size. Pay attention to the dimensions to make sure they fit in your ceiling space. Also note, price is for ONE. So they are a step up in price. But at least three steps up in quality. Strongly recommend these.

Measurements says everything
Measurement result captured with MINIDSP UMIK-1 Microphone. Speaker mounted in a DIY-ed cabinet made with 16mm MDF. Stuffed with 45mm fiberglass acoustic insulation. I've made this cabinet for all my in-ceiling speaker. Note you NEED CABINET for in-wall and in-Ceiling speaker otherwise you are paying 5 times more for what you are listening to. (or getting inferior sound). Blue curve shows frequency response with the buttom setting switched to "normal" whereas brown curve is when switched to "reflective". Basically it reduces 3k-15k by around 3db. Both setting generates quite neutral sound - Note this is the IN ROOM FREQUENCY RESPONSE it tends to be ugly and fluctuating. Still it is quite flat and smooth. Wonderful speaker made by polk. I can only say, wow, what a bargain.

Everything I Wanted
Spent probably too many hours researching speakers for the new home theater setup, but knew I wanted in-wall / in-ceiling speakers. Used the 70s for surround (right rear, right back, left rear, left back) in a 7.2 setup and the sound is amazing. These speakers are deep or tall depending on your perspective and the crossovers are exposed into the attic space / ceiling. Plan for something (baffles, bags, boxes, etc.) to keep them covered from the elements (blazing summer heat) and/or insulation and dust. Extremely happy with the sound and product quality and the included templates make it impossible to not cut the openings correctly. "Vanishing Series" is a great name because you hardly notice they are even there. I still have some fine tuning / calibration that can be done, but out-of-the-box with the receivers auto-calibration they sound great. I only expect them to get better with some tweaking

Great Surround Speakers
I bought these to use as a pair of surround speakers in a 5.1 setup. I have a large living/family/kitchen area with ceiling heights of just under 12'. Since this area is very open I did not want to add some large speakers hanging from the ceiling and looking out of place. These RT70s are flush mount and conceal very well into the ceiling. My neighbor came over to take a look and he did not see them at first mounted in the ceiling. He thought they were just another vent or recessed light! Once these were connected and ran the amp's audio settings wizard the room really filled with sound. The kids enjoy it the most and they really like watching their movies and TV shows in surround sound. I have not yet had a chance to listen to Transformers on Blu-Ray, but I am expecting it to sound great!

Purchased these for side and rear speakers. They sound great and we’re easy enough to install. As others mentioned, make sure you have space as they are tall. I have newer style I-beam joists and these were fine for my application. The magnetic white grill blends nicely. When I do my demos for friends they say they never noticed them until I pointed them out.

These are some of the best sounding in-ceiling speakers available, provided you have the height clearance available in the ceiling space. The Polks have a very clean and detailed sound unlike many other ceiling speakers. Would recommend them if you are appreciate great sound quality but dont want big obtrusive speakers sitting in the room.
