Great. But know the bottom sifter comes off.
Design is great for sifting. I read others were having a problem with first opening the lid after receiving. I expected it, so I tried carefully. Nope. Stuck. Ran under warm water while twisting. It worked in a few seconds. Try that and then everything else is smooth sailing. Now, I knew the bottom sifter had to come off, another struggle but I see some in the reviews stated they didn't know how to clean because they couldn't remove the bottom. YOU CAN and you should be sifting this way unless you want very fine sifting. If you leave the bottom on, what a pain. Just twist hard! With all of that noted, great item that is easy to clean and use after you get the hang of how it is put together. Should come with better instructions!

Great to seperate the bran from the flour
I purchased this to be able to make whole wheat flour a bit less whole. I wish I could give a 5-star review, but my pros and cons are below: PROS: #1 Made of sturdy plastic #2. Does exactly what it should - it filters and separates the bran from the wheat #3 Has a fantastic fine filter which would allow one to make cake flour from whole wheat flour #4 Once we got going, I am able to make it do what I need it to do #5 I love the three cup capacity CONS: #1 The pieces were stuck together when I got them. I could not get them released. My husband had to wrest them apart so that I could even get started. This was most frustrating and I almost sent it back. For this reason... #2 After I received it, I wished it was made of a different material. Would I purchase it again? For my needs, most likely.

Great kitchen tool
After cutting my finger open on a sharp edge of a classic sifter, I switched to this one. I was a bit hesitant at first based on the reviews, but decided to give it a try anyway. So glad I did! Works exactly as it should! It is a bit different than other sifters but the directions on the box were very clear as to how to operate it. For flour just unscrew the white edged screen and screw on the clear 3 cup base. Add flour to top and turn handle. Use the white edged screen for confectioners sugar. Easy peasy! The Progressive International website has photos and a video on how to properly use this item in case you ever need to refer back. No problem with cleanup either. Just put all parts in the top rack of the dishwasher. Excellent kitchen tool. I am hoping I get years of use out if it.

Every time I look at that sifter I'll be reminded of the damage it did to my hand.
I ordered the Progressive Measuring Flour Sifter. It arrived on time, with all its parts, and looking exactly like it did in the picture. I don't know whether it works well, however, because I haven't used it yet. I'm waiting for my hand to heal after it having been torn up to blisters trying to unscrew the top part of the sifter from the measuring cup after I removed it from the plastic bag it came in. It seems that this was a packaging error, a misalignment of the screw threads when the sifter was assembled for packaging. Trying to get it open took me no less than two hours and caused me an unbelievable amount of distress, damage to my hand, and an earful of profanities for everyone around at the time. Two hours of running the screwed sections under hot water and twisting got me approximately one unscrewing rotation but no further because of the misalignment. It's probably an awesome sifter, as it has all the features I wanted, but the manufacturer really needs to quality-check their assembly process. This experience was horrendous and completely unnecessary.

beats the tar out of a standard sifter
I could not be happier with this sifter. I had been using a standard sifter for cocoa mixes--and anyone who has ever used a sifter and/or dealt with cocoa powder can probably imagine what a mess I had to clean up each time. This sifter has eliminated the mess, works much easier (no more sore squeezing hand!), cleans up easily, and fits all together like clockwork to store in a spot even smaller than my old messy sifter. I certainly haven't seen any sifter designed better than this one. I greatly value Amazon's reviews, and I almost didn't order this product because of some of the negative reviews, but I am so glad I did. If you're on the fence, I think you should give this one a try. For my purposes, this beats the tar out of a standard sifter.

Love the way this allows you to sift flour while ...
Love the way this allows you to sift flour while also measuring it! One less step in my baking routine. Update July 2020: I bought this in September 2016 and have loved it. I always hand wash it and yesterday while washing it, the top clear plastic came unglued from the red threaded part. I'm impressed it lasted this long. I might be able to super glue it back but I may have to buy again if I can't fix it because I really love it.

Not the proper tool for sifting whole grain flour!
I purchased this sifter to sift out the bran from my freshly milled flour, but apparently this is not the proper tool for the job. There are two separate parts that can screw onto the sifter itself - a cup to sift the flour into, and a fine screen that you have to shake the entire sifter to process the flour through the fine screen. The actual sifter screen is no finer a mesh than any crank sifter out there. The separate fine screen is great, but it makes no sense to screw it onto the sifter, where the flour is sifted directly onto the fine screen only to have to be shaken vigorously to do the final separating of the bran from the flour. The fine screen should be made to screw onto the cup where the flour can be sifted in, and then the fine screen screwed onto the cup, at which time you would shake it to do the final separation. It is easier to hold the cup upside down and shake, just like any shaker, than to try to hold on to the sifter, maneuvering around the hand crank making the whole operation quite awkward and clumsy. For the same or less money, I could have gotten some sifting screens to do the job, which I will now do. I just thought that this product would be less messy. Turns out it is actually very messy!

Great once you can get the pieces separated!
I just used my new sifter for the first time, for confectioners sugar. Worked like a charm and prevented the mess I usually make. On the downside, however, when I first got it, my husband and I struggled and struggled to separate the two nested clear pieces, including soaking in warm soapy water (which didn't work BTW). I thought I was going to have to request an exchange. Then he discovered that even though the piece is threaded, it PULLED apart from the nesting position rather than screwing together. But it does screw onto the bottom of the sifter. So, be prepared to have a strong person around to help you get this apart initially. One more thing, although the ad says it's dishwasher safe, that is not indicated on the box (no paperwork came with mine) and neither does it recommend washing by hand, so no feedback on that from them. I'm sure that the rubber gasket on the bottom of the measuring cup should be removed before any washing.
