Do these need to be oiled?

Use them daily. Do i have never "oiled" them. But i do used them sometimes to pick things out of oil. Good tongs. Love them will get another when /if these wear out.

Is this dishwasher safe or should it be hand washed?

Hand washed. Never but anything wooden in the dishwasher. I did that once and it messed it up. Hand wash and spray a little cooking spray on a napkin and wipe it after it's dry. It keeps the wood conditioned.
