A perfect first set for home use and portable enough to bring it to the park with friends. Your second set should be the 3.75 inch tournament set but is too big and expensive to be taken out of safety of your home. The quality is top notch, pieces are smooth and well proportioned. The pieces weighs like a hardwood would and the magnets helps to hold it in place. Without the magnets, i think it would still be stable due to the base being wide enough for its height. The board is well finished like fine furniture and its shade is lighter which provides contrast with the pieces. I like that its waxed like finish is not too shiny to be distracting and its easier to the eyes. I highly recommend this set.

This chess set is amazing especially for the price, it’s hard to find a wooden chess set at this price point, the wood feels really nice & the pieces are really well made, I especially love the knight’s design in this set, it doesn’t have eyes so it doesn’t look all weird & creepy like a lot of other sets, it’s a minimalist design, the pieces being magnetic is a really nice touch too, the magnets are strong enough to stick on the board without falling over when the board is moving but not too strong where it hinders gameplay, the magnets also compensate for the pieces not being weighted. Mine came with a broken latch so I emailed them & they replied to me very quickly & sent me 2 replacement latches for free, so the customer service is really outstanding. Overall this is a really good chess set for beginners, casual players or people who like playing on the go & I am extremely happy with my purchase!

Absolutely Loving this! The way really nicely crafted, board opened and closed well, all piece has velvet bottom that made it easily and softly move piece according the board. Board and piece are made of wood, but despite of that pieces are very soft and does not have wooden spikes so no need to worry. Board is also smooth and give slight shining effect, but more of mate. Inside it has plastic form where you can place chess and checkers piece as soon as you are done.Best part - it really looks luxurious set, perfect decor, and very nice game piece to have game night!

This is by far, the nicest travel chess set I've ever purchased. From the moment you first unbox this at, you notice the quality. The board is beautiful. The pieces actually look like they may have been handmade. The whole set is a work of art. There are little flaws here and there, but only two that I care to complain about. The feet on the board are tiny little pins for holding the set closed. I found they left marks in my table after my nephew and I had a game. He is young and tends to lean on the board, so this shouldn't be a problem with adults players. The second thing is, the clasp on the right side was broken on arrival. There is a tiny pin that holds it tightly closed. That is missing. These are very minor complaints. So much so that I ordered a second set, as I'm sure that it will arrive in no less than perfect condition.As somewhat of an afterthought, the magnets are great. They hold the pieces firmly in place.TL;DR. This is a terrific set, well worth the price. I bought two once I saw how nice the quality is.

Pieces fell great, magnets are in the right place. Definitely worth the money. Except there are no letters or numbers instead there are stickers which are hard to put on because when I peeled it off the original paper some of the letters got stuck on it so if I would stick it, it would be missing letters so I just didn’t put anything.

I've owned this board for little over a year now, and it has been absolutely incredible. I collect chess sets, and own over 100 different sets. I also (try) to play chess at a club level, so I appreciate when things are playable for standard more official chess settings. I've played over 50 games with this board in blitz, rapid, and classical style formats. From this experience, here are my pro's and con'sPros:- Piece design:The piece design in superb. To put it simply, these are the best wooden chess pieces I've ever used in a magnetic chess set. It closely resembles that of the DGT timeless pieces which are the top of the line. Many other sets write "handmade wooden pieces" in their titles but end up just including a set of generic mass made cheap wooden sets, but this company does not. They feel great in the hands, look fantastic, and are very durable. The contrast between the pieces and the board is brilliant, and allows for very pleasant play. The wood grain is also NOT fake, which I am very happy with. They are real wooden pieces that do not have that glossy cheap look.- Magnets:The magnets are perfect for this size of board. They stay on at decently extreme angles, and during blitz play pieces rarely fall down. They also have a very satisfying sound when placing down on the board.- Board quality:Board is very smooth and level. I never really ever have issues with the seam and it has withstood several drops, hits, and literal smacking from small children. I have taken it abroad to two countries and it still plays great. Overtime mine has seen several scratches and nicks, but I've used this in a more extreme case. I actually like the "weathered" look it's taking on as well.- ValueGiven the quality of the board, pieces, and magnets, I don't think you can find a better deal. This is the highest value magnetic set I have found so far.Cons:- Putting pieces back:The magnets are not all the same direction. This causes pieces to snap to each other, or stick to the sides of other pieces. While this is not an issue when playing at all, it is annoying when putting it back after you're done. However this is really not a problem and adds maybe only an extra 10 seconds to your time when cleaning up.- Base size of Queen and King:These two pieces have slightly larger bases than the rest of the pieces. It doesn't impact playability but it irks me that they're not all the same size. I'm guessing this was to compensate for their taller height.- Size options:This size is fantastic for serious games, and works on many different surfaces. However for portability it is pretty sizeable and barely fits in my laptop backpack. The thickness also makes it cumbersome to carry around if you have a small bag. I wish there were maybe 3 sizes (small, medium, large) where this would be more on the medium size.Overall:This is my top pick for serious portable chess, and is my first recommendation anytime anyone asks. I really appreciate the quality they've put into this. Make sure you pay attention to the dimensions carefully and know that it will be slightly on the larger side. If that isn't an issue for you, you cannot find a better deal for the price!
