Motorcraft filters are all I use on all my ford vehicles. They are excellent filters, perform very well and have been proven in many test I've seen. Some might say they're not good for long, extended oil change intervals, but I don't do that anyway. 5k is the absolute most I'll go on any vehicle no matter what a dealer/manufacturer "recommends" Oil and filters are cheap and you really can't over maintain a vehicle but you can definitely under maintain one. All the years I've used these, never a problem. The fit is always been spot on. Never ever a leak, easy to use and install and just overall a good durable filter. I'd recommend these to any ford owner out there. They won't let you down.

When it comes to oil filters for my Ford-based engines, I almost always stick with Motorcraft. The FL-820-S is built to exact manufacturer specs, ensuring proper flow and filtration. One of the best features is the silicone anti-drainback valve, which helps prevent dry starts—a critical factor for engine longevity. The build quality is consistent, and it always seats perfectly with a good seal. It’s a small investment in preventative maintenance that provides peace of mind for thousands of miles.

Tldr; If you need an oil filter to last 5000 miles, then this is a good option. Motorcraft filters are standard equipment for the Ford motor company. After cutting open several new and used filters for my 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis (near identical to Ford Crown Victoria) and several years of research, I had decided that although the motorcraft filters are not always the best in the market, they are good enough for the majority of drivers at their price point. Particular highlights of this filter design over other products in the market are that this filter uses a thicker gauge steel housing then a lot of the other brands. This translates to higher burst pressure ratings, a good feature to have if you live in a cold climate where the temperature regularly dips down to a single digits or below. Another strong feature of this filter is the design of the oil filter bypass valve. Often times oil filter companies will install the bypass towards the top of the can, meaning that the motor oil has to pass by all of the sludge and debris caught in the clogged filter pleating in order to then be returned to the oil galleries. Motorcraft instead opted for the superior bottom return. In a bypass situation, this filter prevents any captured debris from being reintroduced to the oil supply. This filter is rated for 98% particle capture efficiency (multi pass) at 30 micron. Motorcraft recommends this filter you run no longer than 6 months, or 5000 miles. My personal recommendation is 5,000 MI, or 1 year if you're using an extended drain interval compatible oil. In conclusion, although there are far Superior products in the oil filter market, motorcraft filters are by no means a bad option at the price point that they occupy. If price however was removed from this equation, I would rather recommend Amsoil EO oil filters. These filters are rated at 99% efficient at 20 micron, and are designed to last one year or 25,000 miles when paired with Amsoil signature series motor oil. As someone that has used Amsoil signature series products in their vehicle for near a decade, I firmly believe in their products.
