Nice bright string
Considerably brightens up the tone of the #5 B string on my bass. Using Rotosound 66 for the other 4. The Guage is way thicker so a bit weird there but doesn't feel awkward while playing and keeps the tone of the strings more uniform

Solid extra-EXTRA low string.
I use this on a passive 34" scale 5-string tuned either F#BEAD or EBEAD and it holds pitch wonderfully.I did not have to file out my bridge to accomodate the extra width, but the nut slot was a touch thin. This will vary from bass to bass, however. There are sets for tuning this low available with a .175" string, but depending on your style of music and your string touch, .160" may do fine for you. I am a finger-style player almost 100% of the time, with a mostly light attack... works for me. I would suggest trying this string first, given that this is an option to add to another set, so experimenting with a lower cost SINGLE string might work out better for you than buying one of the more expensive sets with the .175" in it, although those will already be balanced across strings. If you do choose this one, D'Addario has a set also nickel-wound that starts at a .120" that pairs well.

Intonated perfectly on the 34" scale for A0
I had doubts if 0.160 would intonate properly or not. But I came to the realization that intonation is much smoother if the string has proper tension. I was using a 0.145 for A0 before. It was kinda floppy and more difficult to intonate. 0.160 is just perfect for that low A. I use it on an SR500, a four string 34" scale.

Great for down-tuning
I play bass in a Progressive metal band and we tune fairly low(Drop Ab)I have a bass with a 35" scale, but even with that extra length most 5 string bass sets aren't heavy enough to handle a Ab for the 5th stringI used to use a set with a .135 for the 5th, but it just barely held the note and was extremely muddy and dull due to how low the tension was. With this string it easily holds the note and stays in tune well, as well as having great tone and tension even when tuned down to Ab.Be warned though, you don't want to use this to tune to a B, because the tension would be ridiculously high and might warp your neck. You also will have to modify your nut due to how wide the string is.

Great strings, but not Long Scale
I put this onto my 10 string bass as a harmony string for my Low B. My bass is a 34 inch scale and the end taper didn't reach the nut. It is about 1 inch too short. So, long scale is kind of a misleading statement with this string. If you have a standard J or P bass that is NOT strung through the body, this should be just ok. However, once you go to a long scale like 35 inches or a string thru body, don't get this string. It is too short.

Good tension for 34", Ab to B; Good Tone
I'm using this as the 5th string on a 34" scale bass for everything from Ab to B, and this gauge seems to be a good choice in terms of having an acceptable tension across that range.I've been happy with D'Addario's strings, and this is no different: I'm very happy with the tone--nice and bright, and it's translated over well to recording.I will buy this again when the need arises.
