Would have given five stars if installation instructions has been included. Positioning matters with lid stays. A little tinkering with a mock-up and was able to get it done without extra holes in my tack box.

I suggest buyers listen to the other reviewers who said they needed instructions. I'm not sure why I did't. I figured I could find them online. I couldn't. Looked at these 20 times trying to figure them out. Just didn't get it. Asked my husband. He had an idea how to install, was not sure, but commented that they were far too stiff for the trunk I need them for. Asked a handyman friend, who's librarian wife searched for instructions online (unsuccessfully), Friend agreed with husband that these are total overkill and really not the correct parts to use for my light trunk with a mosaic lid. Return window closed. Useless purchase.How is this an Amazon's Choice product? How the hell has the manufacturing company not read these reviews and put in a simple page of instructions both online and on paper with the product? It would cost them 3 cents and an hour to put together, but although they have been called out in numerous other reviews about this, they apparently do not care to make the effort. The product might be great, but without that 3 cent piece of paper, it's junk to me. I resent the time wasted as well as the money.

Like other reviewers, I was a bit miffed that they did not come with installation specifications. This type of hinge must be installed exactly in order to work correctly. In this case, the top hole of the main body must be 1-1/16 inch from the top of the panel it is mounted to. The arm mounting measurement depends on how much opening you want (90 or 105 degrees). Using specs for similar hinges, I was able to install these correctly but not with the supplied screws. Inspecting them, it was easy to tell they were inferior -- rough spots and threads, off-center heads. I went with high quality screws and just tossed the included screws in the trash.On the positive side, they seem to hold the rated weight. With two of these, the lid of the chest needs to be pushed closed. It will hold the toy chest lid at any angle.

No installation instructions. It took some fiddling around to get these mounted correctly. I secured the top of the chest open at 85 degrees and marked with an awl 1 and 1/16" down from the top of the chest back. This is where the top screws of the lower part of the lid support were put in. All the other screw were put in where they naturally went. I'm glad I used two supports for the 20"x40" pine lid because one would not hold the lid open. I also used these door restraints for extra protection so the lid supports would not get pulled out of the toy chest. Just what I needed. I did have to make a modification though. These are for heavier doors, could not find the correct ones, so it was to strong to let a laundry chute door close all the way. Also comes with no instructions as installation measurements so I found another one like it and down loaded their instructions. Same brand. I had to cut/grind off 1-1/2 of the coils on the springs to get the right amount of resistance for my door since they have no adjustment. Works great now.
