Personal, Relevant, Accessible. A great resource for those new to yoga or seasoned practitioners.
The author does a very thorough job of covering the topic. She relates personal experiences in her journey through Restorative Yoga, giving specific examples of the impact it has had on her life. The book is divided into logical sections, each addressing the groundwork needed for a successful Restorative Yoga practice. The introductory chapters provide a very accessible description of the philosophy of yoga and how that specifically relates to a Restorative Yoga practice. These are excellent for those new to the topic, as well as some nuggets of information that will be useful to even those with a long history of practice. The later chapters are organized by purpose, and contain well-described and thoughtfully sequenced routines that will fit your own needs. The illustrations are outstanding, easy to understand, and help to enrich the text. I know I will reference this book in the future. This book is highly recommended.

Excellent Resource for Restorative Yoga
As a yoga therapist, I focus on rest and restoration of the body, mind and soul. So many people have contacted me about Power Yoga and Strength Training Yoga. Those practices are great, but I fully believe that most people nowadays really need more time to reset the body's natural healing systems. We are bombarded with busy work and stress. Restorative yoga is a most beneficial practice for activating the parasympathetic nervous system and stimulating the vagus nerve for reduction of stresses in the body. The guidance in this book are accessible and easy for a lone practitioner who may not have the advantage of a local restorative class or yoga therapist. I have made it a recommended resource for my clients.

Reference book caliber yet accessible to everyone at every level
Mia Caldwell’s book, Restorative Yoga for Beginners: Meditation and Poses for Easing Depression, Stress, Anxiety, Pain and Insomnia is undoubtedly an absolute must for yoga practitioners of all levels. With simplicity and clarity she explains the science and impact of a restorative yoga practice on the nervous system, explores the history and philosophy of restorative yoga, as well as where and why it is different from yin and other types of yoga.Incredibly in-depth yet incredibly easy, interesting and enjoyable to read. Mia has composed a book of reference book caliber that is accessible to everyone at every level. Not an easy accomplishment to say the least. I recommend this book highly to everyone as it will enhance the practice of some while inspiring new dimensions of practice in others. Mia’s book is a definite keeper.

A MUST read for Restorative Teachers AND practitioners!
Mia masterfully blends realism and physical manifestation into an enjoyable, exceptionally easy to read guide. By weaving the realities of our day to day lives (stress, anxiety, insomnia, etc.) into thoughtfully constructed sequencing, she has provided every person reading this book the opportunity to tackle whatever ails them. As a yoga studio owner and avid practitioner, I have used this book to add depth to my own sequencing while enjoying some of the poses just for myself. She gives plenty of excellent cuing, history, and the “why” of the poses, virtually removing any further need for you to dive deeper into philosophy (or anatomy) when instructing fellow yogis. Well worth the investment!

Great Resource for Anyone Interested in Restorative Yoga
This book is a great resource for anyone interested in restorative yoga! The writing style is easy to read and understand. No yoga experience is required to read and learn from this book. I like that it can serve as a reference book as well as guiding you to and through a restorative yoga practice. Perfect for a nervous yoga newbie, or someone with a few years of practice under their belt. A very handy book to keep near your yoga mat.

Great book for beginners and seasoned yogis.
I'm currently completing a 200 yoga teacher training and found that I was really called to restorative yoga. This book is a great resource for my own personal practice as well as for helping me design sequences to teach. My final peer teaching to get certified will be a restorative class greatly influenced by what I've learned from this book. I'm also very grateful that she included sequences and asanas specifically for women in all stages of life.

very informative
I haven't quite finished the book yet but I already love it 100 pages in. It's very informative including the science and background of yoga which I was unfamiliar with. I sought out this book for more helpful ways to deal with my anxiety in a natural way and this book does not disappoint. I can't wait to finish and see what else I can learn.
