A thrilling historical novel by the author of The Secret Healer . Cologne, 1351: Elisabeth and Stephen Hardenstein are twins, but they could not be more different. While Elisabeth is inspired by the family business, absorbing everything her father shows her about the cloth trade, Stephen enjoys a leisurely life and pays little attention to their father’s teachings. Elisabeth recognizes her true vocation as a tradeswoman, and though the odds are stacked against her, she pursues her passion. When the twins’ father suffers a tragic stroke, the tables turn. Suddenly Stephen is interested in running the draper’s shop his father left behind, and he takes the lead in managing the family business. But Elisabeth can’t sit idly by and watch as he makes bad decisions and accumulates debts. Stephen pushes her to marry as soon as possible, even proposing a suitor, but Elisabeth has her own ideas about matters of the heart. Are her talents in the art of negotiation enough to win her both the job of her dreams and the man she truly loves? Review: I was wholly liquidated into her creation - Miss Ellin arranged such a plot, backdrop and enobling as well as viilanous characters with such agendas; I never lacked once for unparalleled focus and intrigue as I read.I felt so for Elizabeth's burdens and dilemmas, but fostered every crtaintity she early on possesed the wherewithal to conquer all her adversaries at length.I felt certain and very kindred that she would yet end up with Rafael.I was not disappointed! A gem of a story with amazing ties to historical fictions. Review: Good read - While this is my 3rd book by this author, I have to says this one was somewhat disappointing. Perhaps it lost something in translation. On many occasions I found myself forgetting it was set in the 14th century. The language was not appropriate for the time period as the first 2 books were.

Entertaining
A wonderful story set in Cologne in the 1500’s. I have not read a story about a draper and found the storyline enchanting. The Draper’s Daughter is about Elisabeth Hardenstein and how she broke tradition by moving, successfully, in a man’s world of commerce and trade. The settings and the people in the story were developed and I could picture myself in the storyline. I strongly recommend this author. I could not put the book down, and I look forward to read her next novel

A good read
Set in Germany in the 14th century , this book focuses on the lives of a family of four. The conflict between the members is the primary plot. The role of men and women in that time frame is a major plot line.

An exciting and well written story.
Like the SECRET HEALER, by the same author, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing flows, even though it is a translation.

I very much enjoyed this book
I very much enjoyed this book. As a strong woman in the middle ages of Germany (and maybe even partly in today's society?!) it was not easy for Elisabeth to win independence and to fulfill her dreams while acting against what society considers as acceptable and the norm. Despite having a strong yearning for growing the family business, she did not make the issue all about money and financial success, but was able to make decisions that would ultimately benefit everyone involved. Even when her brother, as the dark, unstable, character in the story, disappointed her over and over again, she kept giving him chances and was willing to forgive and then was able to cut her losses and start over again. I found her courage and perseverance inspirational. Would definitely recommend it.

Good story of female staking a claim in a patriarchal environment
Developed a strong female central who survived and flourished with the support of others, female and intuitive respectful men, in the face of patriarchal, inept males who had societal priority and control of her finances. Surprising twists revealed her intelligence and natural ability to persevere and overcome the greed and ineptness of the men and society that endeavoured to wear her down and dominate the family inherited wealth. This story evoked feelings of despair, disbelief and glee .

Unusual Tale
Not my usual read but enjoyed it. Somewhat far fetched, it was set in the 1300s but could have been the 1800s as things didn't really change much for women until fairly recently. A very admirable heroin.
